Strength Training?

So I've been doing well with my food choices (for the most part) and I've been doing Couch to 5k for 5 weeks and loving it. I don't have any problems fitting in the running now because I'm enjoying it. In fact, I add lighter runs in the week when I don't have to. I am, however, having a huge problem doing any strength training. I have medicine balls at home, a couple sets of weights and enough room, but after my run or on my rest days, I'd rather do anything else and don't make time for it.

Any suggestions? How do I make non-cardio part of my routine?

It sounds like you like the action and get bored lifting weights. Try and incorporate HIIT training with weights and make it fast paced, that might help. Go to google and put in HIIT training with weights you will get alot of ideas.

do it before cardio. bb.com cites studies that resistance training before cardio equals more calories burned.

I suggest a DVD like Jillian Micheael's 30 Day Shred or Jackie Warner's Power Circuit. These will keep you engaged, time will fly, and before you know it you're all done.

Like yourself I enjoy running (as discovered recently) and I found whenever i made plans to do any strength work i would hold back and end up doing light running too.

But what motivated me to do strength/resistence workout was the Wii Active Personal Coach. I found using this game made strength work enjoyable. There are soooo many ways to get in the strength workout using weights and non weights too....I also now use the Wii fit too...its brill

The bonus comes when after a good run i try to do 20min weights i find i do the weights/strength work-out easily.
I am seeing a difference in weight loss but more so the body getting toned. Even when I do the weights first and then running, i find i can perform better! So i alternate as much as possible. As well as your run try to fit in 5 min of weights and then slowly build it up and soon you may find you have to do strength work to perform better in your runs!

I also downloaded the apps for 'Daily Arms workout' - its only 5 min but Its really useful piece of app for me: They also have others for butt and abs......

Hope this is useful for you.......

Thanks so much for the input. I think you guys are right. I just get bored with strength training. I will look into your recommendations!
