Sodium

I received this article today in my email about ways to cut back on sodium.

Here are some healthy alternatives I’ve tried to start limiting my salt intake and add new flavors into my diet. So far so good; I actually feel less bloated!
Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar: Vinegars are the best at quenching a salty appetite. Use these best friends on greens and other vegetables for some needed kick. Plus the sweetness of balsamic goes extremely well with bitter greens (think spinach and lemon!)
Roasted Garlic: Not only does this powerhouse herb help your immune system, but adding roasted garlic on your potatoes or pastas give your carbs a slightly sweet flavor. Even better, spread some roasted garlic on some rustic bread or a french roll for a perfect appetizer.
Curry or Thai Seasonings: Think poultry or other lean meats, and even cubed potatoes, tofu, or rice. Curry and Thai seasonings are packed with aromatic spices, and when paired with coconut milk liven up any array of dishes without the help of ol’ Morton. Squeeze in some lime and you won’t miss a thing!
Dill or Old Bay: For fish lovers everywhere, these two herbs are classic seafood seasonings which do an impressive job of bringing out the delicate flavor of fish without unbalancing your dish. Also, don’t be shy with the use of dill; sprinkle on top of eggs, potatoes as well as chicken! I like to finish these dishes off with lemon zest

My spices have slowly taken over a complete cupboard in the last year . . . getting close to that time of year when I start to plant and grow my own fresh stuff as well so really looking forward to that.
Trying out new flavors has been really cool as well.0 -
I am on a low sodium diet, too due to high blood pressure. After practicing this since 5 years, my blood pressure is normal and I don't need medication.
Here are my tips:
- add lemon or lime to salad or make your own salad dressing without salt.
- Seaspon sushi with lemon, lime or rice vinegar instead of soy sauce.
- I never eat processed or fried food (lean cuisine, etc.) they are usually high sodium.
- I cook at home without using salt. The family will get used to it
- If I eat out, I ask not to salt my grilled fish or meat.
- Beware of scones, cookies, etc. they contain a lot of sodium.
- Read labels.

I love vinegar, I would put it on everything!
Old Bay is a staple in our house, my husband uses it whenever he cooks, whether it be chili or chicken, I guarantee you it will have Old Bay on it. The sad part is I don't think Old Bay is available anywhere but the east coast.0 -

It's available pretty much across the country in Canada. I love Old Bay. Epicure Seasonings are great too and very low sodium.0
