For almost 3 years now I've worked my heart out in prep classes and I do so well, and when I do the testing I fail. No matter how much I try, I can't seem to get my GED.

The story is, I've passed everything and come so far, a part of me wants to quit, and a part of me wants to go on..I did graduate high school and in Massachusetts, we have a test called the MCAS..its a required test to pass in order to get your HS diploma, didn't pass that one either...then several years later, I moved to Michigan and decided to go for my GED..it was my last resort if I wanted to study in college and make something of myself..

So i have passed everything on my GED..but you need to average of 450..you need a 410 to pass but say if you have 410 on everything you need higher scores to balance it out for a overall of 450..I needed a 470 on my Social Studies to make that mark, and after several tries on these tests I can't make it...I feel so discouraged, and i wanna binge..and i promised my fiancee and mom I wouldn't..and that I'd be strong...only thing i have succeeded on was my weight loss.

Stay strong. It must be so tough to work so hard to be disappointed. I wanted to drop a note to ask if you have ever considered that you might have test anxiety or even potentially ADHD? Maybe a professional could help you figure out why testing conditions make you struggle?

only thing i have succeeded on was my weight loss.

    you also succeeded)
    by studying hard!
by finding a fiance who supports and loves you!
    by not giving up!
by graduating high school even if you didn't get the extra test!

Keep studying, take the test as often as you are allowed to. Keep attending prep classes and asking questions. Take notes and review them for a short time every day. Maybe you have the knowledge needed, but you get anxious when the test is in front of you. Imagine it as homework, something that you just need to complete to move on. Try not to put it on the pedestal, don't give the test power. If you think, "this test will make or break me" you will not do well. If you think, "I'll just do my best and see what happens. No worries either way." You might do better!

Don't let this test beat you up! You want it, you can DO IT!

My brother was in the same boat up until 2 years ago. He wanted to go to school for motorcycles but could not pass the GED test. He was actually able to take the test and the college entrance exam at the same time and passed. Not sure what you want to go to school for but maybe some of the trade schools and/or community colleges by you offer the same thing.
Good luck and do not give up!

You have succeeded on being a fighter. Do not give up. I would seek a tutor and keep trying. Do not give up. Not everyone can lose 57 LB's and you did that, so you will do the GED test as well. Good Luck!

Suzanne, it stinks when you work so hard at something and it just keeps being just out of reach. Hang tough girl. You have worth beyond that. Some people have hard times with tests.. I am guessing tests are a bit hard for you. But look at yourself, you have had success in this area of getting your life healthy. You can do things!!! I don't want you to feel down because you keep trying and that is what is improtant. Cheer up!

Hey, first off, I am so sorry you are going through this and I applaud you for striving for your education, and I am going to share a little secret with you that may help. Go to your doctor, explain to him/her your feelings of anxiety and panic when you are taking the tests, and ask for a note of special circumstances for the test. Take it to the test administrators and they will make special arrangements for you, such as letting you take the test in parts, having someone sit with you, being able to take a longer time than allowed. Then I would get a tutor, it is a small expense, but I think for your education, it is worth it. I hope that helps! And good luck and please keep us all updated!

First off, I applaud you efforts to achieve something. So many people in this world give up before even trying. I am proud of you for working hard and sticking with it. Sometimes things don’t work for us the first few times, but eventually we get there if we never stop trying.

Some of the others on here have a great idea, to talk to a doctor about the anxiety. It’s a good plan. Have you tried taking the practice tests at home? Do you do exceeding well on them? If so, I completely agree, you have an anxiety issue that is preventing you from passing that should be addressed.

And congratulations on the weight loss, that is commendable.

I agree with the poster who said to take the tests at home. Try to do it in the time allowed. That will let you know if you have weak areas that you can work on. It sounds like you have preserverence, which is great. If you have mastered the subject matter but do poorly in tests, this practice test at home will tell you that. Then you can see your doctor.

I know you can do it. You're a success at weight loss. So many people fail that. I know you can do it! Please post back with progress.
