Hey everyone,

I am on here to help me with my own weight struggle and I have a long way to go, but I am a researcher in the area of Obesity by profession and I do a ton of reading on the topic so i thought that when I come across something important I would pass it on to you.

http://blogs.plos.org/obesitypanacea/2011/03/29/human-chorionic-gonadotropin-wont-help-you-lose-weight-may-give-you-mad-cow-disease/

the above article is about the HCG diet which is soaring in popularity now and even has sham doctors like Dr. Oz backing it. Do not be fooled by this crap. All the fad diets are crap, this one is plain dangerous and an easy way to lose a ton of cash.

there is no pill, quick diet, or crazy workout routine or piece of exercise equipment that can realistically offer you the weightloss

it comes from lifestyle changes, proper nutrition, and being active (not just working out, but living actively).

feel free to friend me and contact me if you want to discuss anything related to weightloss....im there with you, and i dont want to see anyone scammed.

  • I agree, I heard very bad things about this HCG diet and thank you but I don't need my hormones any more screwed up than they already are.

Thanks for posting this. I'm so tired of hearing about quick fixes. It also infuriates me when Doctors promote these fads. I hate to be so negative, but I guess the kickbacks are more important than the health of those who trust these Doctors.
  • I have a friend who tried this diet and I told her she should have just saved the 1,000 she spent and just ate the 500 calorie diet that it requires. As soon as she got off the diet she gained all the weight back. I hate people pushing these harmful diets on people that are struggling with their weight. I know that people what that eazy quick fix but it is just not out there. I believe that if you can lose lots of weight fast then that only means you can gain it back just as fast if not faster. Some people have to learn the hard way.

hmm i watched the Dr Oz episode about HCG and it sure did not sound like he was 'backing' it to me.. in fact he outright said don't use the drops (they are totally unregulated) and the shots he only sorta gave ok to ONLY if was administered under very strict Dr control as should all very calorie restricted plans.

    edited to add:
no.. i am not a supporter *LOL* it's an appetite suppresant plan that makes your body think it is fine eating only 500 calories *S*

a doctor in his position should not be "sorta give the ok" to anyone under any cercumstances. you best believe he was paid a hefty sum to have a show that highlighted the HCG diet from the HCG company.

HCG does nothing, it is a placebo, it has been debunked for weighloss for 30 years, it is the most rediculous weightloss thing out there.

and according to the article i posted, it increases your chance of getting mad cow disease.

so for dr oz to even have this on his show is just crazy. he further promoted it on one of his many websites.....

not only for this but for all the selling out that he does, dr. oz should be taken off the air, he is a scam artist and has no business giving advice to the millions.

All fad diets fail, you would be much better off looking towards permanent life changes to make it last, which is why I highly recommend a clean eating diet which is not a vegetarian diet despite what some may think. You need to learn just how bad some of what we cram in our mouths are, would you trust a complete stranger to make you a meal behind closed doors not knowing what was in it? This is why I became much more aware of what was really going into my body. I am not some nut job who goes all diet crazy, I just simply do my best.

don't get me wrong... i am totally against fad diets like that... (been there done that in my weaker past sadly..but, we learn as we go *S*)

Am just saying the message i got from that Dr Oz show was not him supporting it. He was against the drops totally despite 1/2 his audience being there to represent the use use of the drops 'positively'.

He said he could find no benefits to the shots unless they had appetite suppressant qualities but any low calorie diet like that MUST be under a Dr supervision, shots or not. He was not the only Dr on that show btw. There was at least one other surgeon there who was actually a supporter of it (surprised me)

i am just saying i watched it because i had heard so much hype (none of which i believed) and was interested to hear more.

What i got from his show was that he was not in support of it either.
Perspective i guess.. i was not left with feeling he supported any of it at all oddly *S*
i just like to listen to as much info about controversial things as i can and keep an open mind.
Nothing said on that show made me think i was wrong in the opinion i had already formed for myself, that the program was a bad thing *S*

I saw the Dr. Oz episode and I got the impression that he WASN'T backing it and was in matter of fact trying to show why people shouldn't rely on it, especially the drops, but even so for the doctor prescribed shots.

fair enough, i did not see his show, i read a third party account of it, perhaps it was a bit biased.
but here is a little bit of it.

"And while that's shocking to anyone who cares about evidence based medicine, it's not so shocking for Dr. Oz as he's long since sold himself out to non-scientific, non-evidence based woo, even promoting a faith healer on his show.

What is perhaps news is a link sent to me by Weight Maven's Beth Mazur. It's a link to one of Dr. Oz' own webpages entitled, "The Shortcuts Dr. Oz Would Never Take" and it was posted just 3 short months ago.

The first shortcut "Dr. Oz would never take"?

    The HCG Diet.

Here's what he said about it just 3 months ago,
"Initially, this diet may help you rapidly drop pounds. Ultimately, it destroys your metabolism, as you are essentially starving yourself. Another negative side effect is the loss of muscle mass, so much that you will no longer be able to effectively burn calories."
    And now?
"If you find someone like Dr. Emma (the HCG provider he had on his show), I think it's worth trying"
And how much will it cost his viewers who take his advice to try the diet scientifically proven to be useless and the one he himself rightly reports is likely to dramatically impact on muscle mass, so much so that weight regain will be far more likely? Dr. Emma charges her patients $800 for 6 weeks of this sham treatment."

so all i was saying about dr. oz is that a person with as much pull with the public as he does should not have crap like HCG on his show period unless he was clearly stating "DONT EVER DO THIS, IT IS COMPLETE CRAP AND DOES NOT WORK, THE HUNDREDS OF STUDIES SHOW IT IS NO BETTER THAN A PLACEBO!"

he did not do that, he in fact said "its worth a try"

anyways my original post was just to bring up a good article that clearly shows what a sham HCG is.
