Hi my name is Jackie I recently found out that I'm pregnant with twins!
I'm whondering if there is any other pregnant ladies on here that I can talk to?
This is my first pregnancy and would like to get in touch with someone pregnant with twins or ssingle pregnancy.
I don't know how much to eat or if there are foods I should avoid. Before I found out I was eating 1200 to 1250 calories since finding out I'm pregnant with twins I've given myself 600 extra calories for a total of 1800- 1850.
I love my babies so much I just want to give them the best start.:smooched:

Talk to a pre-natal doctor please. They will give you the best personalized information for you and your babies.
  • Congratulations!!! I think you are right with the extra 600 calories. Because I am pregnant with one child and I'm supposed to only eat 300 extra. As far as foods to avoid, you should try not to eat anything with caffeine, lunch meat, bacon, sushi, or too much fish in general and that's all I can think of right now! Hope that helps. :)

I would say you will want to eat a MINIMUM of 2000 calories but that is something you can talk with your Dr. about!

    Congrats on the pregnancy...super exciting!

Second alecta. My mom's a perinatologist and people are constantly asking her questions like this (outside of the office)-mostly for their friends (presumably those questions come up inside the office as well, but obviously I'm never there). The answer she gives all of them: "it totally depends on the person." There are so many factors that play a role in determining diet for a pregnant person that it really is necessary to talk to a doctor.

Here is a website with a calculator for caloric needs during pregnancy! Not sure if they have a "twin" option, but it'll give you an idea if your not going to be talking to your doctor anytime soon

My advice comes from Dr. Bill Cosby, but I hear the "eating for two" (or in your case, three) is a myth. You still just eat for one. Trying to lose weight while pregnant is something you should definitely consult a doctor about, but I don't think there's any reason you should be eating more than what your maintenance calories would be.
  • congrats!! im happy for you!
im not a mom neather a doctor, but i know that the first 3 months, you have to eat normal trying to eat balanced and healthy, and standing in your current weight and then u have to increase 300 - 400 calories. (since u are 4 months, with one baby, i don't know about twins! lol)
i'll hope u have a happy pregnancy and healthy twins!!!

Congrats! I have five kids, and pregnancy calorie needs not only vary from person to person, they vary from pregnancy to pregnancy, depending on where your body is at the time. So, get in to see your doc for personalized instructions. One thing though, get on a good prenatal vitamin ASAP. Babies are going to need stuff your normal vitamins won't provide.

Yes, talk to a professional. We can cheer you on and share your joy, but you should not be taking health information from us.

Thanks for all the advise. The reason I ask is because I found out in the ER and they took care of my problem but as far as the pregnancy they just sent me home with no info.
I don't have my first apointment till another two weeks and just wanted eat right.
I'm Not trying to lose weight at this time, just trying to nurish my babies and myself.
    Thanks evereyone.
