Ok, nooo yelling at me for this one. I am only repeating and looking for feedback about this conversation I had with my doc. this morning. Wondering if anyone has heard anything to back this up.
I take a daily temp with a basal body therm. Now in 16 years I have NEVER had a temp drop below 97.0 degrees. Todays was 96.7. To most of you that is nothing for those who know about this type of charting it is signifigant. So I emailed my doc. with my chart and asked him about it. He questioned my caloric intake. After going back and forth then a phone call. He said lowering my cals to below 1200 for the past few days (not on purpose, family stuff kept me super busy, I try to eat all my calories), anyway he said he thinks my metabolism slowed and that a slower metabolism means a lower body temp. He did advise me to be careful and keep a healthy caloric intake.
Here is what interests me most.... he said there are studies done that indicate a slower metabolism also slows the aging process. Hmmmmmmm.

There are plenty of studies on this (they are usually the anti starvation mode articles) but most of the tests and experiments, from my understanding, have been done on mice. They have yet to complete a primate-based study with significant results (for obvious reasons- it takes a long *kitten* time to figure out life spans  ) But there is some doubt that this same principle would carry over from mice to people.

Very interesting! i would like to know what peoples opinion on this are. there are so many things people tell us about healthy living that contradict the other but i never considered the long term affect of calorie counting.

I have not done the body temp charting...but I do know that mine is sllllooooooow. Lol. I have lower than avg blood pressure and lower temp as a rule. They once told me what they said to you....live longer. I said, "Live longer like a slug???" lol... Although it takes longer to lose weight, I am grateful to have lower BP... Mine usually runs around 90/60 with a slight variation either way. Have a great day!! (btw..I have an underactive thyro also..dunno if it contributes)

I don't know... Very interesting... I need to do some research! If that is true, then a higher one would speed the aging process?? That kind of doesn't make sense, because why would we tell older people to exercise to be healthier if its just going to age them quicker?? hhhmmm. Very interesting indeed.

I've read some about this. There are some who propose that extreme calorie deprivation over a period of years, will slow the aging process. And there's research behind this. But for me, I don't admire how those folks look (many look like walking skeletons ... I know one and everyone always asks if he's got cancer or something), I like eating too much (in fact I'm a proponent of eating good food in large volumes ... calorie controlled of course!) and I need the fuel for staying physically active. So for me, I'm not into that. I just like food too much! LOL

@trainer Robin!!!!! OMGosh!! I am married to just such a person!! He looks that way and barely eats enough to exist. I'm like you however, I have to eat to maintain enough energy to function and I don't look nearly as old as he does!! Maybe people just haven't done enough research with evaluating enough people who are actually living it!!

Slow down in metabolism is devastating to weight loss.
As far as aging goes, it could be true.
    But,
Personally I'd rather live until 80 being ripped for most of my life, while still eating foods I love like; pizza and ice cream. Then live until 90 or even 100, being skinny fat and eating 1200 calories everyday.

It's about quality of life, in my opinion.
Besides I could get hit by a car tomorrow, so I want to enjoy my life.

I do not think he was advocating eating a lower than normal calorie diet, he was saying to me a slower metabolism means slower aging, you can have a slower metabolism and still eat your daily calorie values. He stressed I need to give my body enough fuel to function properly and well.
