How do you know how much fiber you should be eating? MFP sets my goal for 15 (grams I think). I never paid that much attention to mine, until I kept noticing my fiber count was in red. Apparently I go over my fiber intake like everday. Can that be a problem? I figure it's better than not eating enough fiber.
Another random question----Can you go to the bathroom too much? Not from the fiber lol. I pee so many times throughout the day. I probably go more than a pregnant or elderly woman. My husband says I go too often. But I just go when my bladder is full. And the more I drink, the more I go. I do go more than I used to a couple of years ago. But I don't have any problems. My bladder never hurts unless I drink too many cokes, which is not very often. I've been drinking lots of water since December. But this started before then, when I was mainly drinking tea and coke zero. I've heard caffine can also cause an over-active bladder. I know I could ask a doctor, but I really don't want them to push medicine on me unless I really need it.

MFP's default fiber goal is dreadfully low. Aim for at least 25-35g per day. You can change it yourself by going to My Home>>Goals>>Change Goals>>Custom. Save your changes.0

Not sure about the first question, but for the second, there is nothing wrong with peeing too often per say. However, increased urination is a symptom of many conditions. If it continues, you may want to talk to a doctor. I highly recommend that you do not check out webmd or something like that because it'll just list so many conditions and most people assume they have the worst one.

When you drink a lot of water, you are going to urinate more often. That is a good thing, especially if you are exercizing. You will need extra water to replace what you sweat out.
If you are worried, do go to your physician. there are some very easy things they can do to make sure you are okay. Talk to your primary regarding this whole thing. They can help guide you to the goals you set without any dangerous side affects and yes, we can have some.
Fiber is mostly carbs which help you eliminate waste. That is never a bad thing. If you go to often or it is too soft (runny) you really need to see your physician.
I guess the bottom line is to see your physician now to prevent future problems.0 -
Well, for the fiber I agree that you should manually set it higher to 25 or 30. Honestly you never hear any cautionary tales about how someone just ate too much fiber...I don't know if it is really possible as long as you are getting it from natural sources. If you are adding fiber from powders and stuff then I think that THAT stuff cause give you digestive problems over time. But having lots of lettuce and apples and other fiber rich foods won't cause you problems. Frankly fiber is so filling that I don't think you'll ever be in danger of overdosing.
For going to the bathroom - if this started before you started dieting, exercising and drinking more water, then I think you should probably talk to your doctor about it. This is definitely something normal for people who are losing weight and drinking more water, but you may want to talk to your doctor about your diet and exercise regime anyway.

I went back to check my food diary. On average I consume about 27g of fiber per day. So I will change my goal.
I'm getting health insurance with my new job at the end of April. I will def mention it to my new physician, however, I really think I am fine. Frequent urination does not bother me. I just didn't know if it was normal or not.
Gogophers-I think your right. I better not look more into that. I will freak out and assume the worst. But now that you mentioned it, it's hard for me not to be curious. aahhh0 -
I find that I pee like 5x more often now that I am drinking the recommended amount of water. I am in the bathroom probably once an hour or so during the day. It shouldn't be a problem, unless you notice pain with it which could mean UTI. Also, if you notice that you can never get your thirst quenched, and that's the reason you drink and pee so much, then that is something to mention to your doctor. That can be a sign of diabetes.0

My mom just talked to her doctor about the peeing thing and he said as long as she is not waking up in the middle of the night, it is not over active bladder. She goes about every 1/2 to hour or so. I would worry about it unless it is painful, has a finky odor or if you are constantly waking up in the middle of the night. (once in a while is fine, but not 2 or more times everynight.)

Sorry I meant I :wouldn't" worry about it and she goes every half hour to hr during the day. He told her to work on stretching out the time to train her bladder. I really need to proof read when my daughter is distracting me. :blushing:0 -

This is hard to tell, because I am one of those people who are always on a diet, or thinking about starting one every so often. I have been off and on my weight loss battle for about 3 years now. And I'm "on" right now, but still make bad choices. It's probably a good idea to talk to a doctor about my diet and exercise regime. That's something that I have never done before. I figured there's nothing new they could tell me. I would really like to see a nutritionist too, but I don't know if my insurance will cover that.0 -

I go about as often as she does. I only wake up during the night once in a blue moon. Usually it's because I made myself finish my water before I went to sleep. I can usually go longer during the day, but it's more frequent during the evening. And there is definitely not an odor or pain. Never thought about training my bladder. That may be part of it. Before I had this problem, I had jobs where I felt like I couldn't go to the bathroom very often. Then I could go anytime, and I started going more often. It's more like my bladder just doesn't hold as much as it used to. So maybe I just need to retrain my bladder.0 -
