So this post is obviously for the girls...
Today was the first day of my period and I am feeling SO unmotivated! My weight hasn't budged since the weekend (in fact it's gone up a little), and I know it's due to PMS/TOM because I've been doing everything right, but right now I am just SO frustrated! Today was the first day since I started logging almost 2 weeks ago that I've gone over my calorie goal (by less than 100 calories, but still) and it's taking everything in me not to just say "F it" for the day and head to the kitchen and eat the first salty/sweet thing I see.... but I know I will regret it... ahhh! I just want the number on this stupid scale to MOVE! Anyone else get the same way around this time of month?

The scale will go up a little due to bloating and excess water weight retained. Don't go for the salt, that'll make it worse! I like to add lemon in green tea and the lemon is supposed to reduce bloating. It actually helps. But around the middle of the week you should be back to normal and you won't regret eating all those salty things :)

Unfortunately, I'd have to tell you to let your body do its thing and trust that things will pick up again in a week. The joys of being a female!

You gain a few pounds when on your period...

I actually feel more motivated while on my period...I think it's because my birth control makes me soooo tired, that the week I'm not taking it, I have way more energy!

Yep, TOM is hell! And for that reason alone, I stay away from the scale 3 days before to 3 days after. I just can't handle the emotions that are tied to the scale along with the regular hormonal emotions!

Step away from the scale, believe in yourself since you are doing everything right and it will show once TOM has left! YOU can do this!:flowerforyou:

Someone on here said she doesn't weigh herself 2 weeks prior to TOM because the number on the scale goes up... so how long after TOM should we get on the scale?

I weigh myself during TOM but don't really record it as it usually is about 3lbs higher. The first weigh-in I trust is 3-5 days after it has ended.

I'm in the same boat. I feel huge and all I want to do is eat. I've been trying to snack on healthy things. Pistachios are good for something salty--they are VERY low in calories and fresh pineapple is good for something sweet. It, too, is low in calories. I did kind of indulge and have a Fiber Plus bar. Or two. I love the Chocolate Chip. They're chewy and really good. My husband was laughing at me because he thought that I might have an "accident" from eating too many fiber bars. lol. At any rate, they're only 120 calories and taste like a real treat. So, yeah, I understand what you're going through. I didn't even weigh myself today because it just seemed like a bad idea. Stay strong. Hopefully, here in a few days when it's all over, we'll be back on saying that we lost a couple more pounds :)

Oh, this is SO me right now. I was completely down in the dumps on Monday night and almost gave in and ate a package of Peeps (how I love Peeps!). By the next morning, I was feeling better and I didn't step on the scale again. I hate that hormonal downturn on the first day!!

I refuse to log a weight gain during this time, it's not "real", so I'm not obligated! I'm not stepping on the scale again until Friday. For you, I think two weeks is a little long. Usually a day or two after mine is over, things start to return to normal and I start losing weight again.

Pat yourself on the back for coming here to vent instead of eating the entire fridge, lol :explode:

I'm with you -- I put the same pair of jeans I always wear on yesterday and OMG I could barely zip them, and then I got emotional, frustrated, angry, wanted to chuck it in and eat whatever I want, and a whole lot of it.

I love the idea of not weighing during TOM. Even though I know rationally that all these fluctuations are going on and always do, every single month, it wreaks havoc with my attitude and emotions.

Just hang in, drink tons of water with lemon and instead of eating, pour a glass of wine, hop in the bubble bath and read a good book.

    Hang in there!

Thank you thank you thank you everyone! As I mentioned, I am kind of new to this site but it is really incredible how amazing and supportive everyone is. Ending up compromising with my sweet tooth by eating 2 clementines, and am currently drinking a cup of green tea with lemon (great suggestion)

To those who are also dealing with TOM right now... hang in there and remember we're all right there with you (And come back to this thread if you need to vent!) :flowerforyou:

I am just the opposite right now. I am not sure if this works for everyone but thought I would share. I started in January and have always had really long, heavy periods with lots of cramps. After researching nutrition, I increased my potassium to 2500 mg and lowered my sodium to 2000. I monitor both on my food diary. The very next TOM it only last 3 days (instead of 6-8) and was very very light. I haven't had any loss of energy, and don't get bloated. I have not had to scale go up even by half a pound. I started my period this morning and decided to try on my old jeans (10s). I have been in 12s for two months now, and the tens fit perfectly! Not bragging, just thought if this could help someone, I should share.
