Teaching my boyfriend...

So my boyfriend is a HUGE junk food fiend. Mind you, he's super tall and skinny and can (pretty much) eat whatever he wants and stay the same weight, so it's hard for him to have me eating salad while he eats pizza.

However, I've been slowly trying to teach him about calories and sodium and fat. Like yesterday, we went grocery shopping, and he was trying to be nice and pick out things for us for dinner but he was picking out breaded/fried chicken breast nuggets and chicken wings and then picked up these pre-filled bagel bites, and then some pre-made deli sandwiches.

These are all things we used to eat together, but alas, are not things I can eat anymore. So each time I would turn over the box and show him SERVING SIZE (he's horrible at ever looking at that) vs calories vs sodium, etc. For example, we looked at the bagels which were 150 calories for THREE small little bagel bites. And we both stated that normally we'd eat the whole box without even thinking about it. So it finally became clear to him HOW I got so big, because he never could understand it (not sure why lol, I'm short, he's tall, so eating the same calories obviously won't have the same effect).

It's still a struggle trying to teach him what's healthy and what's not because of his thought process on food, but I think I'm slowly getting through to him.

  • keep at it! it will sink in eventually. its not easy to make a lifestyle change such as this-he will learn.
good luck and keep us posted on your progress and his ;)

oh man, story of my life. hahahaa. its nice to hear it from someone else though!
  • :-( My husband brought home MacDonalds for him and my 2 teenage boys last night after my first successful day of staying under my alloted calories. I am in the same boat, they are all tall and skinny. I broke and ate a Big mac and small fries....so mad at myself.

Tomorrow's another day!! Be sure to make it clear to him that you know it's a nice gesture for him to bring you something too, but that you are serious about what you're trying to achieve.
