I honestly have no idea how many calories I was eating before I began eating healthier. I set my goals to 1.5 pounds/week which puts me at 1470 calories per day. When I found my BMR under tools, it says to eat at least 1629 calories per day. To be honest, I don't always even eat my 1470 a day and am usually right around 1350-1400.
So, just your opinions, should I increase my calories by a couple of hundred per day?

  • its been my experiance that as long as you are eating health and arent experiancing any type of hunger issues, than you can continue taking in what you are comfortable with. the numbers that they give you on this site are basicly a guide to go by, they are not however the rule for which to live your life. continue to do what is working for you and keep up the good work, and remember it isnt a diet that you are on, its a lifestyle change.
  • Just go with the 1350-1400. If you don't lose weight then you can tweek it. You have to just make sure your calorie deficit isn't too low.

I've been losing right at the 1.5 a week, actually. I get hungry occasionally, but I try to eat some fruit or nuts or greek yogurt if I do.
After reading some of the FYI threads, I started worrying about starvation mode and freaked out a little haha :)

If you are working out, you may need to add those calories. When you do a workout for about 400 calories your BMR for that day will be 2000 or so. So you should be eating those calories to meet your weight loss goal. Of course eating as healthy as possible and as clean as possible will only help you speed up the process.

I do work out, and I try to always eat the calories I work off, at least until I can see how much of a difference that will make.

you have to eat more once working out or your body will store/shutdown, also you will not only lose fat but muscle.
