so i've been eating well all week so i figured today is my cheat day. i'm going to eat everything i've been craving all week. like a dq blizzard, a cheese calzone, etc. i know the stuff isn't god for you at all. but if i don't have that much weight to lose and since i'm young, it can do this if its once every week or every other week. right? RIGHT?!?!?

please don't tell me i can't... i think i might cry...

You can do anything you want... just look up the calories... might not be worth it to go HOG wild on your cheat day... pick one thing. If you are depriving so much you are probably not eating enough. DQ blizzards are bad because of the fat in the ice cream PLUS the candy! It adds up!

You do not have to listen to anyone on here.. but remember when you are grumpy you didn't lose, some might get tired of hearing about it..

    Ummm...again...not to be rude....

It is your choice to eat what you want....
We really don't/shouldn't have a say in what you choose to do.
If you want to indulge that is up to you, lots of people do it.
However, you have to remember that you ARE doing it.....so try not to freak out if the scales show it (most of the time that's just water retention from eating stuff your body isn't used to).

I try to keep a healthy balance, so I don't FEEL deprived enough to need many cheat days. I have discovered I can't REALLY enjoy them since starting MFP.

Eating too much sugar always makes me 1.) get a headache 2.) want to eat more sugar.

In all things, moderation. Yeah, that's it. pppppppppppffffffffff. Right.

I do it every once in a while and have still loss. It helps trick your body. If you eat the exact same calories everyday your body will slow down andy you will actually need less. Our bodies strive to be as efficient as possible. By changing things up, your body doesn't know how much you are going to get from day to day so it keeps running as if you are consuming a higher amount of calories.

If you want to, indulge. But I warn you. You may have a sugar hang over if you eat too much today.

I'm with Anna. Just make sure it is what you really want, because it totally ruins your day if you feel guilty after. if you are going to do it, commit, don't feel bad, and get right back on the horse the next day! Enjoy!

You're right you can do whatever you like but remember that if you do eat the foods you named you'll probably undo everything you've done for the week. A cheat day is always nice, I do it myself once a month or so, but if you're working with a 500-800 calorie deficit a day to lose a pound or more a week and you splurge and eat 2000 calories more than normal (and that can be done at DQ!!) then you're going to impact your end results.

If you decide you need to do it then go for it but I wouldn't plan it for once a week if you're really looking to lose weight.

Be careful cause you could end up with the pounds you just got rid of last week and then spend all this week getting them back off again to only slurge again and its a vicious cycle....
    ok did that make sense:huh:
    Sorry pms..... :embarassed:

Just to warn you.....When I first started eating right I would allow myself a cheat day, and would stuff my face with whatever I wanted, but about half an hour later I would feel like a big ball of poo and regretted it big time!! I would take two of your very favourite cheat things, this way you still get your treats but you will not feel like crap, this is what I do now, and it curbs my cravings for everything else. It really works! Like today I bought a bag of moritz icy squares ate about four then threw the rest out, plus I'm going to go grab a burger and fries later with my sis. I have a cheat day once a week, guilt free!!

Log it. See how you feel. Can you live with those numbers? See how it impacts your weight in a week or two. Are you okay with that?

It's all about balance and what you can live with. When I cheat, it's generally on the weekends, and it's usually one bad thing/meal a day. I try to balance it out with exercise (cleaning the house, a walk, dancing like a moron) as much as possible.

I think my cheat foods truly slow down my weight loss, but I know when I get a strong enough craving, if I don't have it (or some small amount of it), I will give in and binge! That is much worse, so I allow a lot. For example, I just ate a mini Snickers. It was wonderful and I am completely happy with my choice to eat that.

Another idea is to share these foods.... Can you split (or even third) a blizzard with a significant other or friend? Will it freeze well? If so, pack half of it away in the freezer, if if just for tomorrow. The cheese calzone (or whatever that food was) -- can you get it to go, eat half with some veggies tonight, the other half tomorrow? Or even half for lunch, half for dinner?

Some people can deny themselves food and live with it. Not me. I allow my favorite foods, but in moderation and with exercise.

Yeah that stuff is great but to me its not worth the calories and the work that I have to put in burning all that junk off- Do as you wish and eat some for me

If I had to go my whole life without ever again having a blizzard or a calzone, this wouldn't be worth it. lol. Having one occasionally is perfectly ok. Throw in an extra workout, split the calzone with a friend and order a SMALL blizzard. If you force yourself to completely do away with foods you love you will only wind up bingeing on them later.:flowerforyou:

I agree thats why i dont deprive myself but I also dont go on a full out calorie binge that wont help the problem

    Just practice self control.

If you want a DQ Blizzard AND a calzone AND something else, etc. etc., and you eat it ALL in one day, you'll a) feel like crap b) be on the toilet for a while tomorrow c)undo a couple day's deficit.

If you pick one really yummy thing and eat it today, it might be 500 or so calories. You may still feel like crap and be on the toilet for a while tomorrow, but you won't undo half a week's hard work. Then next week you may still feel psychologically satisfied and you won't need to treat.

If you practice moderation all the time, you will never have to deal with the binge-purge cycle of overeating and extra exercise.

honostly, if i crave something, i eat it, i just make sure to do it in moderation, and make sure its within my calories for the day. i view this journey in my life as a lifestyle change, not a DIET, and the way you live your life SHOULD NOT be PAINFUL or leaving you FEELING DEPRIVED. the way i am now eating is how i plan on eating for the rest of my life. if i was to wait until a specific day to CHEAT i know i would probably go overboard, i have been where you are before, and i found out the hard way i was just setting myself up for failure, and i failed miserably.

no way i am telling you how you should eat , but it is just my opinion. it took me awhile to find what works for me..... good luck :flowerforyou:

luv your snake by the way, he's beautiful

thats funny, i said that before i read your profile............

thank you all of for your support. what i needed was a healthy kick in the derrière. As predicted by many of you, i feel disgusting and i won't EVER try to pull that stunt again. I"m not sure why i thought i could get away with it.

    thanks again!
