Would you post shoveling?
For an hour MFP says 714 Calories, do you think thats to high?

I would definitely post shoveling! Cleaning I wouldn't, shoveling for sure I would. MFP ties the calories it says you burn to your weight so its hard to say if 700 cal sounds reasonable. I know its a heckuva workout though!0

that many calories for how long? But yes, it does burn a TON of calories!0

It was super heavy spring snow too, I think i may have to go shovel again later.
I shoveled for an hour.0 -
I did (Before the Snow Melted away here..)
As for the amount of calories burned. The Only real way to know is to use a Heart Rate Monitor, There are simply to many variables, (Snow weight (is it fluffy or heavy wet snow) and the Speed People dig Snow.. (I have seen Kids being able to spend 45 Minutes Clearing a Door Step, While others Clean the Whole drive way in that amount of time..))
Happy Shoveling...0 -
The day after the blizzard, I sure did! Very heavy snow -- couldn't use the snow blower. I got a better workout that day than I have others. I was so tired and ot of shape, it convinced me that I needed to workout. So I started. . .0

I googled it and picked a middle ground when I added shoveling snow. It can definatelly be a workout. That's why out of shape people die of heart attacks doing it! I can have burning cheeks all day after a good bunch of shoveling. I've lived in snow country for over 20 years, now in lighter snow country. You can be out there an hour with it up to or over your thighs. It's like weight lifting!0

Yesterday a lot of the snow had melted today theres probably a foot out there. Its heavy wet springtime snow. I put 500 calories for the hour I was out there figure that was good. Im a big woman 254 lbs and out of shape it made me feel it in all my body today0 -
391 an hour for me. I haven't tried it with my heart rate monitor. I'm 5'2" and 139 lbs. I KNOW it's heavy exercise!0
