went hiking today with my husband. we were coming up a steep graded trail and were passed by a man and woman. no biggie. happens all the time, because i can hike, but i do it pretty slow. anyhoo, the woman started jogging up the trail (once it got flat) for a bit, and then kept looking back over her shoulder at me to see how far behind i was getting.

i mean, a little healthy competition is a good thing, right? because when i saw her do that, i though, 'game on - and you are going down.'

i felt like a monster in the woods, because she kept looking back at us with fear in her eyes as we hauled *kitten* up the trail to overtake them. and we did. and it stayed that way. and we even hung around the parking lot doing extra stretches just so i could tell them to have a great day when they *finally* came off of the trail.

and she was totally pouting.

winning.

pretty cool day in the woods...

LOL I don't know about *****y but definately funny.... I would be the one rolling in the middle of the trail laughing at two women trying to compete for no reason.

You just stepped up your game when you were challenged. Nothing wrong with that.

if i were her, i would have thought you were a total psycho. i wouldn't at all have thought it was a competition (i'm in the woods, after all) and i would have been checking behind me only to make sure you weren't trying to attack me.

the woods can host a lot of weirdoes, after all.

lmao in a major way. not sure if that's what you intended or not. it's not like i was hunting her or was wearing war paint - i've never been to a state park with that kind of weirdo before...and i didn't have my scary face on or anything...she was just a twit.

We went hiking in MA while on vacation. As we rounded a corner there was a guy rolling a huge ball up the hill. We stopped and looked at each other......WTH?? The ball was changed to his leg and it would roll down further and he would fall. Then roll it back up. We had a faint memory of something learned in school.........but then he was all alone.

So we LOL, kept on hiking. Turns out as we came down the other side there WAS a group of ppl watching him. It was "Art in the Park" and he was an actor acting out a Greek Myth:laugh:

Funny things happen in the park.

I have to agree. She was obviously jogging for exercise and also probably just wanted to space herself ahead of you so you wouldn't feel "crowded". When I pass someone on our walking path, I always try to get way ahead so I'm not eavesdropping on conversations or passing them only to have them feel like I'm crowding them (like when a car pulls out in front of you, then goes 20 mph--rude!). If I were her, I would have been totally freaked out by your behavior.

You make humor look so easy!! Thank you for always speaking your mind and keeping smiles on others' faces!!

Chanstriste13---Oh my gosh...I would have definitely passed her booty up too and mentioned how nice the day was when passing her! (don't think I would have rubbed it in beyond that though...I'm a bit of a non-confrontationalist!)

I kind of agree. I look over my shoulder a lot when in out runnin, street, trail, track- nothing to do with competing. It's foolish not to, in my opinion. You just need to know who is behind you, how far, how many, etc. Safety first!

this. plus being a guy, if I did that especially with a girl, I'd come off as some kinda creeper/stalker type and probably scare the woman. I know it's sexist sounding and all but it's true.

Not sexist at all. It's just reality. I'm a woman and I hike alone a lot. Guys who talk to me in the woods aren't allowed to get within arm's reach and I hike with pepper spray in my pocket. (Also good for scaring off mountain lions.) I've never been attacked and I've met some really nice people, but still it pays to be careful. Plus I go out in the woods to be alone and clear my head. I don't want other people around me so I smile and nod and then pass them or let them get ahead of me. It has nothing to do with showing off.

If someone started a friendly competition with me on a track I'd go for it. If someone started chasing me through the woods, I'd call the ranger station and report a stalker. Seriously. If I'm looking over my shoulder at you, you are sending out creep/scary signals and you need to back off. I wouldn't assume just because you're a woman that you're not dangerous.
