Is weighing in everyday too often?

I started two weeks ago and have steadily lost eight pounds (mostly water weight, I'm sure). I like weighing myself everyday, but will that hurt me when I get further into my weight loss? Any thoughts are appreciated!

    I will weigh myself a couple of times during the week, but I don't log it until my "official" weigh-in day. It helps me see where I'm going and if I'm losing.

    I don't weigh every day because I'll get too discouraged. I like to see the BIG numbers at the end of a week! :)

    I say if weighing in every day works for you go for it! If I weighed in every day, I would go crazy :noway:

    Personally, I weigh in once a week only and I look forward to seeing how I managed my eating and my activity over a seven-day period.
  • I also weigh everyday. As long as you're realistic and know that you're going to fluctuate from day to day I don't think it's a problem. I feel more accountable for my actions when I weigh daily. :)

    I weight myself a few times a day...It's hard not to when I have a scale upstairs and downstairs! haha.

    I was weighting everyday but I stopped. I agree I like the BIG number once a week.

    I prefer to weigh in every day - for some people like me, the scale provides me with the motivation I need to continue going. - Even if I don't lose a pound that day, or for a couple of days, it's nice to see that number has gone down since I started! Provides me with the "I've gotten this fair and I'm doing amazing! Keep going!"

    :) If you like weighing in every day, I say do it! Just remember if you end up gaining a pound in the future, it's most likely muscle mass as long as you're keeping up with workouts. - This is the hardest thing people can't get past, and might lose themselves in.

    some will say yes. i personally weigh in daily and find it helps me stay focused. i weigh in the morning after waking and going to the bathroom. i dont let the number bother me if it goes up a lb or 2. i only log a weight loss on here on Wednesday. I do have some other MFP friends who weigh and log daily. again that is something you will have to decide for yourself. guess my advice is as long as you are not stressing over numbers then all is good. if it become a problem then reavulate your decisions. i also would highly recommend taking measurements; i have had month where i lost a mere 2 lbs. yet loss several inches. good luck and add me as a friend if you would like = )

    I find weighing in every day too much. I get discouraged. Even us older women still have that 'fluid' fluctuation in our weight. I have been to the point where a few oz didn't make much difference, but not now. What if you gain? Gaining once a week is enough for me, thank you-don't need to see it every day! Besides, I enjoy the anticipation of waiting until the end of the week to 'find out' what happened that week and then being pleasantly surprised when I've lost.

    I weighed daily in the beginning. Since being stuck at the same weight for two weeks, I have stopped weighing daily and am doing it weekly instead but that's just to safeguard against losing motivation. Once I see the scale moving downward again, I will resume weighing daily and record my weight only on Friday mornings.

    I like to weigh in every day, but fluctuations don't bother me in the least. If they did, I'd do it less frequently. Easy shmeasy.

    Weigh daily, record usually weekly on Fridays too. It makes me smile to see I'm maintaining what I've lost. A pound here or there doesn't derail me, so I stick with daily weigh ins.

    As long as you don't expect a loss everyday it is fine. Do not let gains discourage you it is part of the process the body goes through to lose. I actually get entertained by weighing myself at night before bed and then again in the morning. It is amazing to see how much the scale swings between the two. I generally only record (weigh in) once or twice a week.

    This pretty much sums up my thinking as well, although I log a loss or a gain if it's the same weight two days in a row. So my ticker goes up or down a pound fairly frequently. That's why I don't have my news feed automatically update when I have a weight loss. People would begin to wonder why I sometimes lose 3 pounds in a week, but my total weight loss never changes much! :tongue:

    Yeah, that's my goal anyway! lol. I'm doing a 10 pounds gone in April challenge, plus I finish grad school next month and will be walking in graduation AND I have a 5K at the beginning of May. So I'm trying to lose steadily and hopefully I'll hit my goal sometime in July, just in time for camping. :)
  • My official weigh-in day is on Sunday but I do like to weight myself in the halfway point on a Thursday out of curiosity. As always though I only log on Sunday.

    I love you're idea in goals. I think I will list mine today as well... mini goals. So many things I want but the biggest is trying to lose 20 lbs by the end of May for my trip to California.

    I only have four pounds left to lose.. by weighing myself 2-3 times a day, seven days a week, I was stressing too much over what the scale said. I am happy to say that in the last two weeks I've only weighed myself twice! The scale still sits on the bathroom floor, but I only step on it Friday mornings. I go by how I am feeling rather than concentrating on the number.

    I know if I have a bad day and eat too many cupcakes or chips, the number will be higher the next day. I know if I eat clean and watch my portion sizes, the next day the scale will be good. But I no longer feel that I need justification from the number on the scale. Screw the scale!

    I also weigh in daily (actually mutliple times a day), but record weekly. It helps me understand what my body is doing -- I don't get wigged out by wide fluctuations on a day to day basis. For example, this week, I only lost 1/2 pound. If I had weighed in only weekly, I would have been disappointed. But I knew that the scale was bouncing wildly this week -- and gaining as much as 3 pounds. I figure that this is mostly water weight fluctuations, but I actually saw 1/2 pound loss as a true victory and not a defeat.

    When I started out, for the first 6 weeks, I didn't have my own scales, so the weigh-ins I did at the gym on 3 different scales at various times of the day were approximate and spaced at odd intervals.

    But I'm a nerd and like going about something methodically: since I got my own scales I've been weighting myself every morning, charting the result and calculating a 4-day moving average. Plus I can do other statistical analysis, yay! This attitude helps me to keep some emotional distance from the daily ups and downs (especially the ups).

    As for MFP, I record my weight every week, the same day that's weigh-in day for a challenge I'm part of.
