abnormal PAP

Options
I know this might be TMI for some, but considering the posts I see about cystic ovaries and times of the month, I didn't think anyone would mind. a few months ago I had my yearly pap smear and it came back abnormal. I then had to have a biopsy with a gynecologist (can we say pinch!) which also came back abnormal. has anyone else had this? my doctor says all I ahve to do is PAPs every 3 months, but I feel like I should be more concerned.

I had an abnormal one about 2 years ago, but the biopsy came back normal. I get a pap every 6 months now and my doctor says that as long as this next one coming up is normal we can go back to yearlies.

I was also kinda weirded out by the lack of information that the dr gave me after the first one came back abnormal but I called and spoke to his nurse and she explained a lot to me and sent me information

Same happened to me a few years back.. had to go through 3-6 month monitoring as you talked about along with a few painful tests but all returned to normal. My dr. said not to worry and that "abnormal" didn't automatically mean something was wrong. She was right.. after a few months all went back to normal. Try not to make yourself crazy (I know that's easier said than done).. it will be fine I'm sure!

Oh girl, join the club! I had that happen a few years ago but after like the 5th time going back it was nothing. As long as they don't have you there like every week or watching you VERY close you will be ok. Sometimes things show up that are really not an issue.

I have this issue every single time I go. It's been two years now, and I still have to deal with it. I'm not sure what causes it, but I don't think it's a big deal. I've been to all sorts of doctors, including cancer specialists. All they can tell me is that it just happens sometimes, and sometimes it just goes away while other times it develops into something worse. As long as you keep going as often as they tell you, you should be fine. And if something does eventually come of it, at least they'll catch it early, right? (At least that's what I keep telling myself.) Hope this helps. :flowerforyou:

I had abnormal paps when I was age 18-21-ish...the biopsy came back as saying mild dysplasia from the cells on my cervix. Meaning that it wasn't pre-cancerous cells yet but there were abnormal changes etc going on. This was before they were really big on testing for HPV but they said that was one of the main causes etc. Did the cryotherapy basically where they freeze off the first layer of cells of the cervix, still had abnormal paps though.

Strangely enough, after having my first child 4 years ago, I've had normal paps since. Even stranger is that he was a C-Section (fully dilated to 10, he got stuck since his head was turned funny)...but yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about it just yet.

For about 5 years, mine were always abnormal. Eventually I was diagnosed with asquamous cells, had the pinch biopsy (twice!) and a leep once. Never anything... If you have anymore specific questions let me know.
FYI-- my TOM is always VERY heavy.

I had that a couple years ago...whatever it was cleared up on its own in about 6 months. Did they say what it was?

Don't freak out...it happens to lots of people (including me).the pap i had right after my son was born came back abnormal, but they said that happens a lot after child birth..i just kept the follow up appointments, and it went away.

It will be okay....I think their motto is Better Safe than sorry...They would rather be proactive...just in case :)

    Ironically, abnormal is fairly normal.

thanks for all the replies guys it's always nice to hear that it's not just you. I got the biopsy results from my biopsy a few weeks ago as a mild dysplasia. To me that work sounds way too much like neoplasia (cancer) for me to feel easy. I'd almost rather do one of the more drastic procedures to take out the abnormal cells and put my mind more at easy, but I know they won't. I just hate this waiting game - either it clears up or it turns into something.
