i am having abdominal surgery (female-parts-related) on april 4. the recovery period is 4 weeks and i can't lift more than 15 pounds during that time. i am still planning on running 3 days a week (fingers crossed) since i am training for a half-marathon in june. does anyone have any suggestions on arm, back and stomach exercises that i might still be able to do while i am healing that won't aggravate that area? maybe some yoga/pilates moves or something?

I took about 2 weeks off exercise after the same sort of surgery (you'll need it!), then started carefully cleaning my horse's stall again, making sure I didn't lift more than 10 lbs per fork load, taking my time, and letting someone else push the full cart. I had also been riding daily before surgery, so I already had a strong core. Getting back to your normal daily routine as soon as possible by following your doctor's limitations is the best way. Walk until you are cleared to run. Sitting on a stability ball at your computer would help you regain your abdominal core strength in a gentle, safe way.0

Check with your doc. I just had hysterectomy 8 weeks ago and was told NOTHING for 6 weeks but walking. Hard to get back into the routine of walking and eating right after that long. You could probably do some light weight arm lifts0
