Any idea how they come up with calorie burn?

Ok, so I have a HRM with a chest strap, the best way to go, and for what it says my calorie burn is compared to MFP's determination, it's almost double. For example, today I did 40 minutes and my HRM said I burned 346 calories, but when I entered my time into MFP it said my calorie burn was over 700. Any clue as to the discrepancy?

MFP uses a generic input for their determination. A HRM is a much better indicator of how many Kcals your body is burning

My HRM is what I go by almost strickly if I remember to have it on during an activity. I am glad I do not count on MFP calorie burn because it is an estimate. For example, I do Insanity and if I were to enter that I did 44 minutes of High Impact aerobics it would be about 1/2 as much as what my HRM is calculating. Often I have burned 700 in 40 minutes. I wouldn't come up with number with MFP, it would be much lower.
