Today I purchased an SportLine S7 Heart Rate Watch. Using it to count my calories burned it said I burned 358 calories doing my week 3 C25K workout. The treadmill read that I did 200 calories burned. Which am I supposed to believe? The watch takes my age and sex into consideration. The Treadmill uses no other variables other than my heart rate. 358 seems way to high.

I've looked at reviews saying that it seems to read high for others as well. But aren't HR monitors supposed to be more accurate in the first place than other ways? I continuously rechecked my HR into the watch through out the workout. I didn't do that for the treadmill hr monitoring.

I don't know. Any thoughts?

Does the HRM have the chest strap??

May seem high but could be right wouldn't be surprised, but if you are not wearing the strap not sure

The treadmill I use is not accurate , the one at the gym is at least 100 below my HRM.
The HRM I use, you program your data in it , the treadmill I dont

i use a HRM watch, the New Balance Fit. I put in my high and low for my target zone and try to take a reading every three mins when i am on the treadmill. i noticed that when i am in the zone, but on the low end, i burn about 2 cals for every 10 seconds. when i am at the high end of my zone i burn about 3 cals every 10 seconds. my zone is from 127-167. the other day i did 30mins on the treadmill at about 2.5mph and it said that i burned 492 cals. i went online and found another calorie burner calculator that goes by your time and average heartrate during the exercise and it was almost exactly the same. unfortunately, i dont remember the link. but will try to find it. the more readings you take, the more accurate it will be. I love mine!!!

I'm afraid if it doesn't have a strap then yep it's junk. It won't give you an accurate readout.

Polar HRM's are a good average priced range. I have a Polar FT7 and lots of others here have the Polar FT4

I had that same one before I got the New Balance N4. I got a new one because I would try to take my heart rate with the Sportline and I would have to stand there in the middle of my video and stop what I was doing to try and get a reading and then sometimes it wouldn't even take it. I also noticed that after I got my new one the Sportline was way higher by a couple hundred calories than the New Balance (the new balance has a chest strap).

I returned the junk and went ahead and invested in a Polar FT7. Very cool - seems far more reliable and accurate.

    Much thanks!
