how many of you have started this journey been successful for a bit then had a relapse? thats what ive just gone through. I hadnt lost much so its okay, but not helpful!

For me, it is all about motivation.
I have been going through a bunch of changes recently, quitting smoking, eating better, and working out. I can tell you for certain that there was (and still is) many times where I want to relapse in one way or another, but every time I feel this way I think of my motivation (in my case, my wife, and to be better for her) and I get up and do what I need to do.
My advice to you is finding the real reason you are trying to change. Once you have that, use it as motivation on the days you need the extra push to keep going.

I'm only 5 weeks in to this so I'm not sure I'm qualified to tell you how to keep motivated yet.
But the piece of advice I hope I can follow is that while there will be some days I feel like I can't be bothered - the days where I do bother make me feel so good that I need to push through the bad ones. Not every day will be fun, but the outcome will make the difficulties seem worth it!

I completely agree with chipvb.
I started losing weight last summer/fall for my wedding in July 2011, and then I just fell off the bandwagon as the holidays approached. I found it really hard to get motivated again, and ended up regaining 10 of the 30 lb I had lost. I tried and tried to get motivated again, but I just could not do it.
Finally, I realized it wasn't just about losing weight for the wedding, but it was about feeling better about myself and being healthy. My father and his family are riddled with health issues, everything from diabetes to heart disease, and most of them had poor diets, smoked, and didn't exercise. Many people on that side of my family died before they even hit 50 or 60 years old... and I do not want to be like that.
The other hump I had to get over was the fact that this is not about losing weight fast. As much as I would like to be 130 lb for my wedding, that may not happen... and that's no reason to not be motivated. This is about lifestyle change and happiness, and you aren't going to achieve that overnight. I am now looking at this as an opportunity to begin this new phase of my life in the most healthy way possible rather than just trying to be skinny for my wedding.0 -

the advice on finding the motivation was so helpful mine is one i dont like how i look and it makes me depressed so i need to change it and too I will eventually be getting married so i dont wanna be the fat bride haha but thats no time soon so i will have time to change for that!0
