Complaining and habits picked up from it

Has anyone else ever noticed that when we complain, the eating habits we pick up, to justify a bad day, or fulfill the need in something?
When I have a bad day at work, I want chocolate
When I have a bad day with family, I want comfort foods and snacks
In general, and we all have them, a whol bad week, we snack through out the week
How do we overcome this?? Since my beach trip and meditation there, I have started telling myself, it's ok, I can't change it, so move around it.
I am hoping it works.....

It's been a huge struggle for me, and still is a struggle, to break emotional eating, and to tie those negative emotions with other physical activities. It's wonderful to take a long bath when stressed, but when the tub's dirty, the kid is running amuck, and you don't have time, it seems a chocolate bar or a bag of chips is so much easier to shove in my face.
Keep working on disconnecting those emotional eating ties, and reconnecting negative emotions to some other outlet. Over time, I know you can do it!0 -
I have tried a mental IOU system -- because I agree that when the kids are running around, the laundry isn't done, work is behind and everything else seems to be caving in, it is just not practical to do the hot bath / scented candle / good book / paint your nails / go for a walk thing which is at any other time so much better than a quick hot chocolate or bag of (how I hate this month!) Hallowe'en chips.
So when I find myself reaching for the forbidden "fruit" (chocolate / chips / anything yummy but less healthy than an apple) I give myself an IOU for that healthier alternative at a better time.
Maybe late Saturday night, when the kids are (finally) in bed?
Maybe early Sunday morning, when everyone else is (hopefully) sleeping in?
Good luck -- you are doing great! Identifying the link between emotion and food is key!0 -
Choose something healthy to substitute.
I had a bad day at work. I'm going to go for a run.
I hate my in-laws. I better do some tae-bo and pretend I'm hitting them (okay maybe that's not healthy, but it could work.:bigsmile:0
