Well i know it is months away yet....but i was just curious, how do you all cope with healthy eating over christmas? Do you still allow yourself to indulge?

By then I am hoping I will have lost enough weight to allow myself some kind of treat that ONE day of the year.

I started after Christmas, but going by my appetite now I wont be able to over-indulge. I eat far less now and get full very quickly. I will be having it as a few days off though. We still have to live a little.

I allowed myself to have a couple of treats here and there, but nothing like I usually would. I gained 2 lbs over the Christmas holidays, but I was staying with the inlaws and therefore didn't have control over what I was given to eat so I don't think that was too bad!

I think I'd like to start this reply by saying I've never truly had a weight problem. That said, I don't allow the events of any day, let alone a holiday, interfere with my eating or exercise regime, nor do I subscribe to the excuse to 'indulgence'.

Now of course, I do have little cheats, like coffee with flavored coffee creamer, four to six dark chocolate covered almonds, etc, but these are part of my healthy eating regime.

I wake up every holiday, just like I do any other day - I eat my healthy breakfast, exercise, eat a healthy lunch and dinner and am ever mindful of proper portion control.

Personally, I just don't see the point of eating empty calories or eating excessively to the point where I feel bloated and uncomfortable. To me that's just self-abuse. I love myself too much to do that.
  • I think everything in moderation is going to be my slogan for the holidays and everyday as a matter of fact. Watch what you eat,but don't kill yourself worrying about every detail. If you eat a few cookies one day, spend a little extra time at the gym. I also think that I am going to try and find delicious, but healthier versions of classic foods so that everyone can eat a little healthier and I won't deel left out.

nope. I work during the season and have actually worked the actual day of x-mas the past 3 years. my co-workers tried to get me into the holiday spirit. told me it's the holidays to take a break. my reply: the fat on my body doesn't take time off for the holidays, why should I?

It was all the over indulgance last Xmas with wine, office parties, meeting friends down the put etc that got me here in the first place, so I won't be letting that happen again!

I will most likely be cooking Christmas dinner so can make healthier options. Also, with regards to sweets, I'll be doing the baking too. I will let myself have more than I normally do but that is because to me, the treats are part of the enjoyment of the holidays - but it will be in moderation. I will also exercise more to try and avoid putting on extra pounds.
My family have a tradition of giving me a hamper so I will be hinting that healthy/whole foods would be much appreciated instead of the bailey's chocolates etc that were in the hamper last year - even if they did taste yummy

I think Christmas is the one day that you can allow yourself a rest. Its also my sons birthday and he will be 10 this yr so there will be cake lol I will make up for it in January.

I'll enjoy it without over-indulging. I dont really like mince pies so it's easy to say no to those, a little piece of christmas cake goes a long way, and there's nothing wrong with a dinner of roast turkey, plenty of sprouts adn veggies, easy on the gravy and spuds.

:blushing: I made something like 20 dozen cookies, three batches of chocolate-pecan brittle, and a batch of crab mousse. Then I ate non-stop from Dec 19th through Jan 2. Also there was wine. :drinker: And egg nog. And screwdrivers.

So...um...my strategy will be to not do that again. If any one has a more specific strategy to actually keep fit during Christmas I would dearly love to hear it. Clearly I need one.

I think i actually tone up over xmas. The hours i spend in town rushing about daily in and out of stores sweating buckets stressing i have enough of everything.
Our cupboards are busting over xmas with more treats and chocolates than anything but you know what i hardly pick on them at all. Honestly we have more chocolate in our place than the local supermarket and its only once they have gone around feb time lol then i start craving chocolate wierd huh?

I have been at this life change for over 2 years now so been through 2 Christmases.

The first one I still over indulged. The last one I found that I did have some extra but if I went over the top I felt uncomfortable and unwell. It does put you off going over the top and meant that I only had one pudding or cookie or a handful of nuts and could stop.

I went out for a meal on Saturday and for the first time did not finish it or feel the need to finish it and did not want a pudding.
