Hey all! I've started strength training and it's quite intense as it involves strengthening a leg that has been very week from trauma (dislocation and torn ligaments). So, I'm thinking of supplementing with some protein shakes - probably whey protein - to aid my the process!

Does anybody have any recommendations? I'm not a fan of strong smells that I've noticed with some brands, and I don't want something that tastes foul!! I was looking at the PhD diet range... basically I can get to any holland and barrett :)

I get Dymatize Elite - Whey Protein, it has no sugar in it and is 117 cals a shake (with water) and 24g of protein (my diary is public if you wanna check the rest of the nutrition info). I get the chocolate fudge, it tastes fine for a protein shake, I have tried a lot worse but they are never mega tasty.

I get it from Dolphinfitness(.co.uk), for £30 a tub (80 scoops!) rrp is double that I think so its great value too!

    Hope that helps

    Ben.

I second Dymatize - they are a great brand and typically cheaper than many others while still having some of the best tasting protein I've ever tried. I get the Fusion 7 in Chocolate for a mix of Whey (fast absorbtion) and Cassein (slow absorption) proteins.

I have for goodness shake ones from www.wiggle.com and soya protein from Holland and Barratt, which tastes vile! I prefer the For goodness shake ones. And Luna bars are great too, and bounce balls (whey protein and almond balls).

I have been doing PHD Diet Whey and their Waxy, I enjoy the taste (I find it hard to get stuff I like the taste off, I dont like over fake strawberry or chocolate milkshake/protein shakes).

I found them cheaper on a website though, as they usually do deals also.

Thanks for the info guys! I'll give the Dymatize a go first - maybe banana flavour, vanilla or berry! Flavour recommendations welcome (I don't like chocolate shakes!).

    Protein amount wise
MyProtein Whey Isolated (fantastic amount and low calories, probably the best stuff I've had nutrition wise)

    Taste Wise
Reflex Instant Whey (Deluxe). Absolutely love the strawberry taste but it's only nice with milk!

im not sure what my whey protein is called but i bought it from tesco - the carbs are low and it was quite cheap for a huuuuuuge tub thats lasting me months! (£10)

before that i had the maxitone definity shakes and its more expensive but the calories were lower and it tasted good when mixed with water so that reduced the calories even more

Used to be a huge PHD fan, but moved on because they provided whey concentrate instead of isolate as the bulk of their protein make-up and used a number of gums in their products which I can do without.

Moved to Boditronics, again mainly protein concentrate, but less artificial stuff in the proteins, and some goodies thrown in such as MCT oil.

Finally I found a brand (Reflex) which actually uses isolate as their main ingredient as well as the use of hydrolysed whey as well.

All three brands taste very nice, but I think in terms of the junk in the powder vs the protein blend being used, Reflex wins hands down.

Also all are pretty much the same price around £35 for a 2kg tub. Oh and before I forget all of these are nice with water :)
