Two questions really,
1) Is it still a good work out if you dont sweat?
2) Any solutions to a numb bum during riding a stationary bike?
Thanks in advance

If it has a resistance level, crank it up! But once you get spinning, your heart rate will go up and sweat will start to come after that.
Get a better saddle (lingo for bike seat ;-) ) Until then, some ice and heating pad lol
Good luck & God Bless0 -
After a few rides you will get used to it and wont be as sore.0

If you're not sweating you may be dehydrated.
Bum should get used to it soon! Or you might need a new seat.0 -
Even if you just sweat a little or not at all you are still burning cals and working out.
Actually when you are at a low heart rate you are burning fat.
I learned from a spin class a bunch of different ways to get more out of your workout on a stationary bike.
You can lean with your right leg and then lean with your left and do intervals of this, stand up on the bike and really work out your thighs, you can lean back, tighten your core and pedal.
Get creative with it. Hope that helps a little bit.0 -
The better saddle will not help the bum, only time. If you use the bike on a regular basis it will stop hurting after about 2 weeks. If it's possible, stand up for a little bit if your bum starts to hurt, it makes it harder too.
I'm sure you get some benefit from doing it if you're not sweating, but as with all workouts you get out what you put in. Turn up the resistance, go faster, or both. After my spin class ( about 45 minutes) my clothes are completely soaked, there are two huge puddles on the floor, and I burn about 700 calories.0 -
Try standing to pedal. I have the same problem with the numbness but I have a recumbent so I cant stand up to pedal. And yes its still a good workout if you do not sweat as long as you get your heart rate into the "target" zone...which is different for everyone

to find your target heart rate go here:

Your bum will get used to it and it will stop hurting, but a good pair of cycling shorts should help out with that (they are padded)
Get multisport (or triathlon) shorts if you want less padding than what cycling shorts have to offer.0 -
and I have also heard that staying in the lower end of the target heart rate (I think around 120-135) is supposed to be the optimum for fat burning0
