I don't how to start out so here it goes. I have been trying to lose weight for a year and a half now I joined a weight loss group called TOPS (taking off pounds sensibly) a year ago with no sucess. So I decided to go to my doctor to have a check up done she recommended me to have blood work done so I did everything was normal. The next thing she told me to write down everything I ate and to watch my calories for a month I did this as well when I went back to her I had only lost half a pound in a month which was very discouraging to me. So she recommended me to watch my carbs and to cut back on sodas...ok here comes the confession she ask me if I would like to try a diet pill called adipax to start my metabolism like a dummy I said yes. So I have been on it for two weeks it does not seem to be bothering me at all but I am kinda scared of going off of it because I am afraid of gaining my weight back ounce I do. Does anyone have any ideas what to tell me because I would really like to stop them but afraid of the outcome...PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Dietary supplements are not always a bad thing. Your doctor will wean you off of them so you don't just shut down. Keep up your workout and your metabolism should kick itself into gear. I've seen it work for other people too, you might just need that kick start.

Good luck on your weight loss!

I don't have any advice about quitting them other than to just tell your doctor you aren't comfortable taking them and that you want to wean off of them...I used phentermine about 3 years ago and lost 34 lbs on it...I didn't gain any of it back for about a year until I got sick and moved 1500 miles away from my family and just totally rogue...Just be mindful of everything you're eating and drinking and all the exercise. And make sure you are eating your exercise calories.

I took phenromen (spell) for a month a couple of years ago and lost a ton of weight...I think 20 lbs that month. I kept it off for about a year then went through a divorce and gained 15 of it back. As long as you keep your diet and exercise in check I wouldn't be against it. It may reset your metabolism. who knows
  • I don't think that the pills prescribed to you by your doctor are a bad thing if you need them to get started. Once it starts coming off though, I would definitely talk to your doctor about going off of them. On a seperate note, I took a peek at your food diary. It looks like you are eating alot of processed foods (as a mom and full time employee I understand the convenience), but these are loaded with sodium. The sodium alone can make you retain water and not look like you are losing weight. I might suggest editing your diary so that you are tracking sodium, it made a huge difference for me. Good luck on your journey.
  • Thanks all for your kind advice....sjc thank you as well I will try that as well I just thought as much water as I drink on a normal day my sodium would be ok but I will consider that today thanks alot to those who did reply !!!!

Not sure why you say you're a dummy... I was on Phentermine for the first 2 months of my weight loss journey. It helped me as I adapted my relationship with food and got my body moving. I started it the same day I started MFP and got off of it in September when I felt in control and have been rocking and rolling ever since! Never feel guilty or ashamed for using it as it was intended... as an aide to help you. You still have to do all of the work and trust me, it is work! But definitely well worth it. I'm so happy I chose to use it under my doctor's guidance, coupled with this site- and eating clean and working out... I have totally transformed my life for the better. :)
