OK, so I can't get my nutritionist on the phone and even if I could she couldn't explain this to me in a way that I would understand.

#1) How many calories do I need to consume on a daily basis to Lose weight without exercise?

Now consider that fact that I got to the gym and burn on average 1100-1400 calories PER DAY!

So if I need 1200 calories to lose weight per day without exersice ( like my nutritionist said ) does that mean all I have to consume is 1200 calories alone even while working out? OR, do I have to consume 1200 calories ONTOP of 1100-1400 calories that I burn bringing my total caloric intake for the day to between 2300-2600 calories?

  • If you don't work out then you can eat 1200 calories.

If you do work out you eat 1200 calories + whatever you burned working out. As long as you're logging both your food and exercise on here, then it'll tell you how many calories you should be eating.

Most times I work out I estimate that I burn between 400-500, meaning that I should eat from 1600-1700 calories.

The great thing about MFP is it figures all this out so you don't have, too, remember.

When you signed on, you selected a weight loss per week amount. MFP then assigns a daily calorie intake for you based upon your current weight, sex, age, activity level.

That is your base daily calorie amount that you can consume. If you ate only those calories, then you should lose whatever amount you selected to lose.

Now, when you exercise, you go back in and enter your exercise into MFP. MFP will then factor in your exercise calories, adding them into your daily caloric intake. YOU NEED TO EAT THOSE CALORIES-IF YOU DON'T, YOU RISK STARVATION MODE OR EVEN LITERALLY STARVING YOUR BODY.

So, if MFP starts you at 1200, you exercise another 1200, MFP will show that you need to eat 2400 for that day.

  • Don't cut your calories to low. I take in 2000 a day and still lose weight with working out. Most people think you have to go out and bust your butt working out. You don't. The best investment is a heart rate monitor. Maintain a workout at 60%-70% of your max heart rate for 45 minutes or more and you will be in the sweet spot for weight loss. 60-70% could just be walking.
