Sore feet

I have never been able to wear heels of any kind because of the pain in the arches of my feet it causes. (I was flat footed most my life, it's a bit better, but still not much of an arch) Now with doing Zumba I'm having a lot of pain, in the arches and on top and in my toe area. I keep trying to figure out ways to stretch it to see if it would help. I thought it would eventually go away but I have been doing Zumba five times a week for six weeks now. Any ideas?

I would visit a podiatrist. Sounds like Plantar fasciitis.

I just started trying to loose weight and this is week two for me. I've been doing Zumba and walking ..I notice my feet starting getting really sore and some days I would have blisters :( After I got done working out sometimes I couldn't walk ...so last weekend I went and bought a new pair of shoes (Dr. Scholls) from sears. They made a HUGE difference my feet haven't been hurting anymore and I've actually been able to increase the amount of exercising I do:) Hope this helps.

Thanks! Thats exactly what has hurt me most my life till the last couple of years after finding a pair of tennis shoes that have the perfect size arch for me, my husband doesn't understand why I keep buying the same pair over and over. Now I know what to research for ideas.
  • I. too, have a foot problem. I saw a specialist in January and was treated for plantar fasciitis, which is a tightening of the band on the bottom of the foot. I did learn that STRETCHING is VITAL. Some say that standing, with your toes on a step, and rising up and down is a very good stretch. I was told to do 90 second hamstring stretches faithfully morning and night. After my foot treatment, my foot felt great and then I increased my exercises, to include zumba, as a matter of fact (but not as much as you!) but also increased my running on a treadmill. Unfortunately the pain relief only lasted about two months and at a recent doctor's visit, I was told the treadmill exagerated the issue. Also, and this I have heard from several sources, if you walk or use a treadmill, do not use an incline. I have not returned to zumba, though I really would like to. It is such a good, fun workout!
Anyway, make sure you stretch and wear good shoes with arch support. I was told not to walk around barefoot, either.
I hope you get it taken care of. It is so frustrating when you are trying to do the right thing for your body and possibly because of it, you get other issues.
    Good luck!

I just started doing stretches on the step for my calves, other stretches weren't enough, so maybe this will help with my feet too.
It's hard to find a show with the perfect arch, most of them are too high. Then shoes with no arches always end up hurting me too, but it takes longer and lots more of being on my feet. I love being barefoot, I would never wear shoes if I could get away with. The tennis shoes that I found perfect for me, have so much traction that when I do Zumba on the hard wood floor, I stick alot and get tripped up. lol.

I love Zumba too! I'm not spending my time through it wishing I could just get done, and it feeling like it takes forever to finish. lol

The others have given good advice. Plantar fascitis is awful. I was plagued with it for several years. I did it all -- massage therapy, acupuncture, anti inflammatory pills, stretching, always wearing shoes, icing the foot. --- all because I let it get away on me. Take action right now. Stretch lots, wear good shoes, wear shoes in the house, see a podiatrist , the advice is all good. It's too hard to exercise with sore feet.
