Hello Everyone!
I have this problem that happens when I walk for exercise.....the problem is itching......really bad itching that happens to the lower part of my body when I have been walking for about 10 or 15 minutes. After the 10 or 15 minutes, the itching starts to build in intensity until I have to stop.....stopping is the only thing that stops the itching, if I try to rub or scratch, it spreads. Does this happen to anyone else? What do you do to prepare yourself for walking? A physical therapist once told me to take something like anti-histamine (sp?). I really need help with this....I love to walk, but this causes me not to want to do it. HELP!

I don't have any answers, but just wanted to let you know that I hope you can find a solution! It must be really irritating, and I wish you healthier times and quick diagnosis!0

I get really itchy when I sweat sometimes. Is your skin really sensitive? I also get red and blotchy when I cry or swim in salt water because there's histamine in my skin thanks to dear genetics. I've noticed that since I started wearing higher quality workout clothes that it doesn't happen very often. Any moisture wicking fabric would be good. I love Lululemon and Nike tops and leggings. Good luck!0

Thanks everyone! I read the article and it talks about taking anti-histamine should help. I will be getting some today. I would be a work-out fool if I didn't itch so bad. I'll let you know if it works. I just love my MFP family....you all come through every time! :bigsmile:0

It's your blood circulating! It happened to me when I first started working out but as I kept going it went away completely.0

I used to have that happen, I switched my detergent to Charlies Soap and it has helped tremendously.0

I just had the worst experience. I went to water aerobics like I had been dying to do for weeks. When I got there, the water felt great! About 5 minutes into the work out it happened.....the itching started. I was like...oh, not in the pool...this has never happened here. I kept going trying to fight it....after about 40 minutes, I was itching from head to toe and had little bumps all over my legs. I tried to fight it but I couldn't. I got out of the pool and almost ran to the showers. I feel better, but I still feel a little itchy-fied. My worst experience ever. When I left the rec center I went straight to the drug store and bought some Claratin....I hope it works....I feel awful.0

This happened to me after being in a hot-tub a few years ago. Then it started happening when I was doing the dishes (only on my hands--they would swell and get red and intensely itchy). Then when I would exercise. In my case, my doctor said it is cholinergic urticaria, which is an over-sensitivity to body heat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cholinergic_urticaria
The only way I know to deal with it is prevent it. We have a dishwasher now, I avoid hot tubs, and I wear light, breatheable clothing when working out.
Your pool experience makes me think this might not be what's going on with you though. Unless your body heat is really rising in the pool, but I'd think the relatively cool pool water would keep it from happening. It would be a good idea to talk with your doctor. Hope you figure it out!0 -
Hmmmm. When I got in the pool, I noticed that the water was really warm. Usually we have to complain about the water being too cool.0

I thought I would update you all on my problem.....Claratin has solved the problem. If you have this issue also....try it.0
