Does anyone here go spinning? If so how good is it really for speading up weight loss, i have had mixed responses, one person will tell me its one of the better exercise classes and then someone else will tell me there are better ones.

If this isnt one of the better ones then can anyone tell me what ones are best for this?

I think spinning is one of the best group exercise classes for weight loss as well as for developing cardiovascular fitness (cos at the end of the day it's not all about weight it's also about fitness isn't it!).

But yes, it's hard, it's interval based and it's non-impact, so you couldn't ask for more.

I enjoy it. The teacher says one of the best ways to lose weight. My trainer says not so good for building muscle or you would see more bodybuilders in there. He only wants me to do it once a week. Counts as a heavy aerobic day for me. Others say its great cross training if you combine it with lifting weights and running. Since you enjoy it, keep doing it. Anything that gets the heart pumping is good in my book.

I do about four classes a week - I absolutely love it. I find it helps so much with the weight loss, but also makes you feel really good! It's the class that makes me sweat the most (urgh!) but you feel so good after it. It's really hard work, but the sense of achievement afterwards is brilliant. Thoroughly recommended!!!

Thank you! Think definately going to give it a go, first class is next Wednesday so will make sure i go along!
  • I've been spinning a couple times a week since the last week of January. It is really an intense workout! I'm usually sweating by the 2nd or 3rd song and winded. I know I'm getting stronger and my endurance is still building, because I cannot do the entire class following all the ups and downs yet. While it's a group class, everyone controls their own speed and resistance, so you have to push yourself and not take it easy. Do not get me wrong, your booty will be SORE! after the first class. I heard a padded seat can help but never tried it myself.

I heard spinning was great for a post-pregnancy pooch, and I had one lingering after 2yrs. My waistline and pooch are shrinking. Another great workout is Zumba. My gym offers a toning class, lots of reps with moderate weights, which gives a great burn (not sweat). I also mix in a yoga/pilates class to add stretching and more toning. I think it's good to continuously switch up workouts. :)
