Thank you for answering that! That AD bugs me - but I'm not gonna buy it either!

Does anybody know why bananas are on the list? I have one for breakfast everyday.

Maybe bananas are on there because of the sugar....but that doesn't make sense because it's fruit! I usually eat bananas with peanut butter before my workout in the mornings...it gets me going! I guess if you eat like 7 bananas a day it could be bad, but even then you wouldn't really be reaching the toxicity levels of potassium....so....I'm not sure.

Because banana's are full of carbs.. which store as fat.. they're good to eat first thing in the morning, but try to avoid them in the evenings!! :) x

Bananas are fine... They might be on the higher end of the calorie spectrum for fruits, but they have a ton of potassium and are a great pre-workout food.

It's because of the glycemic index. I eat them anyway. I think they are one of the most filling fruits.

Well, it´s not really bad to eat bananas.
The only problem with them is that they´re extremely fatty.
So, a good rule would be, that if you want to eat bananas, try to eat them before 3pm in the day, that way the body has more time to burn it before turning it into fat while you sleep.

I was under the impression that the OP is guessing, not stating. And yeah...bananas....really?

....no....they're not. Sugary, yes. Fatty, no. And the whole eating carbs and fat before you sleep thing, well...read some articles on that too.

Bananas are one of the best foods to eat before a workout. The potassium and natural sugars give the body an extra boost in energy. Compared to other fruits they may be a bit more calorie dense, but it's all good. It's like saying you shouldn't eat avacados because they are high in fat, or stop eating carrots because they are high in carbohydrates.

Bananas are fatty? Seriously? Have you looked at the nutritional content of a banana? Most of them have less than a half a gram of fat. They are an all natural food and much better for you than the crap that most people eat.

And everyone please stop with the nonsense of when you can and can eat certain things, it's absurd. Which is more healthy @ 9pm, a banana for a fistful of chips or cookies? I'll take the banana any day.

They are just trying to sell a book. I don't believe in the whole "foods you should never eat". This is a life change, not a diet. Diets are something you do for a short time. This is for the rest of your life. I don't believe in making certain foods off limits, it's everything in moderation.
  • Well I have had all those and lost 23lb since January!! There is no food forbiden as long as you ensure your other meals allow the goodies :-)

I think this post was a guess at the 5 foods because of that ad that always pops up on the side of the screen. There is a lot of differing opinions on natural sugar. I think the guess on bananas is because they are high in sugar...Some people say that sugar is sugar and no matter the source your body will process it the same way. Others say natural sugar is fine and not to worry about it. I always find it interesting to read these posts because the same conflicting views repeat

A banana is featured in the ads that say, 'Five foods you should never eat'.

I eat a banana every day, and sometimes two. They are amazing for you. Maybe the ad is for people who are just desperate to be skinny fat. I'd rather be fit fat right now.

The timing of your carbs isn't really like that. Definately old information.

And ANY macro stores as fat IF you are over on your caloric needs for the day.

I eat 2-3 bananas a day. So I disagree with them being on the list.

I kind of agree with softdrinks and pastries. But the others don't make sense. There's nothing wrong with potato chips every now and then if they fit your daily goals.

don't eat ripe or over ripe banans since they are higher in sugar and your body has to work less to process them than a just starting to be ripe banana.

otherwise bananas are fine just eat half and when the skin is very yellow with any brown skip it

My doctor recommended I eat a banana before bed to help with my insomnia. It helped, and being better rested has helped me lose weight!

I think most of those ads are designed for people who want hard and fast weight loss answers...like don't eat these five foods and you'll be skinny forever. It's all designed to make it sound like there's 1 big secret that's going to change everything for them. I don't pay any attention to weight loss adds and after everything I've tried the only secret is that there is no secret but it's simple...too much of anything isn't good. Don't overeat, eat good wholesome food and move way more!

its because the riper the banana the more sugar or higher the glycemic reastion to your body so eat bananas but ones that are not too ripe or over ripe.

this way your body still has to work to process them
just like with pasta...you can have it in moderation but leave it aldente so your body has to work to process it vs overly mushy noodles that grandpa with no teeth can handle with no problems

I've never known anyone who got fat eating too many bananas- I am sorry! They aren't fatty- and honestly, I lost over 100lbs a few years ago and it didn't matter what foods I ate at any time.

I wish it was this easy. We'd all be Hollywood-Homely* in no time!

*Hollywood Homely is a trope [www.tvtropes.org] that involves an "ugly duckling" (who is actually an attractive person put in bad clothes, fake acne, overalls with paint smeared on her face and a ponytail in her hair -etc.) who is in a very true sense brought out of her shell when they.... wash her face, do her hair and put her in a pretty dress & heels and debut her  at The Big Dance. lol**

**I really don't feel like this post should have taken such explanation. Sorry. :blushing:
  • Banana's are a good source of Potassium and B6. Good source of dietery fiber low in calories and have zero fat or cholesterol. This is in the most recent this is the most recent post is the Rocky Mountain Running and Triathlon magazine along with these facts.
    1. Banana's help with hangovers. Blend a banana with milk and honey to help calm the stomach, stabilize blood sugar and rehydrate your system.
    2. Banana's help heartburn by having a natural antacid effect on the body.
    3. Rubbing the inside of a banana peel may help reduce the swelling and irritation of mosquito bites.
    4. Because they contain Vitamin B6, bananas might help reduce the symptoms of PMS.
    5. The inside of a banana peel can help get rid of stubborn and embarrassing warts.
