For all the girls - normal to gain wait at TOM?

Hi Ladies,
Just wondering how many of you gain weight at your time of the month? Also, how much do you gain?
I stepped on the scales this morning and I'm on the third day of my cycle now, and I have put on 1lb. I haven't logged the gain on here yet, because I know I've been eating really well and doing what I should to lose, and vaguely remember someone telling me it's normal to gain weight during your period, so I was just going to forget my weigh in this morning and weigh myself when I'm all finished in that respect!
Thanks,
Chez x

yes that's definitely normal! I wouldn't worry about that at all.0

water retention probably.
although some people don't exercise and eat more during that time.0 -
Yes definately normal. I blow up like a balloon during that time from water retention. I always drop it back down the next week. I don't even log that weight. I wait until I know it's back to "true". Don't stress over the TOM! It's already bad enough!!!0

My weight spikes every month, I do retain water but a couple of days before I start I am ravenous and make bad choices.... The joys of womanhood but I wouldn't swap it for dangly bits!!!! Lol0

I have a similiar question, is it possible to put weight on when you ovulate? I seem to put weight on during this time rather than normal TOM.0

Lol I find it is possible to put on weight when there is a y in the day of the month!!!!!!0 -
I pretty much always gain 1 or 2lbs, it disappears straight after so I don't log it either0

Thanks all of you, I thought I had heard it somewhere. Reassuring to know that other people don't log their gain either, and instead weigh themselves when they're back to their 'true' weight.
I have been so restrained with my eating this week - I was really hungry just before my TOM, but made sure I was still under my calories because it's so important to me to keep my weight going in the right direction, so it definitely isn't what I've been eating. Probably the water retention and bloating is to blame - I feel like a beached whale!!!!
Regarding putting on weight when you ovulate, I have absolutely no idea - there's so many knowledgeable people on here though, I'm sure some 'bright spark' will know!
Thanks again guys!0 -

...speaking of bright sparks, I just asked my mum about this as she used to work in Gynaecology. She said that you can put weight on when you ovulate too - up to 7lb in some cases! Hope this helps.0 -
I'm so glad I found this - I just started myfitnesspal 2 weeks ago and weigh myself every morning before breakfast to get a true weight (but I record every other or every three days, I just weigh cuz I'm curious) - and I had lost 4 pounds! My TOM is tomorrow, and day before yesterday out of nowhere the 4 pounds was back. I work at a hospital so I'm using a well calibrated patient scale that is used for the whole inpatient unit - very very accurate. I couldn't believe it! I had weighed the previous morning at 172.4 and then is was 176.2 within 24 hours?! I thought I was gonna cry, like the weight loss had all been a dream or something, but I know that's not possible. It sucks because I'm also bloated so my clothes feel tight as they did before I started too. I'm so glad I don't have to log the weight gain, I know it's not scientifically possible to gain 4 pounds overnight from eating wrong after losing is gradually over 2 weeks...
This will be my first time paying attention to my weight during a TOM... I can't wait to get back to my "true weight" so I can truly relax about it and know it was just that.
Thanks guys, and hope others see this and it helps.

I just had my first TOM sine I started tracking on MFP, and it was acutally amazing to watch. I track every day, and if you look at my chart in the "Progress" section, right before my TOM my weight goes up, up, up - I put about 3 pounds on. Afterwards, I lost those 3 plus one more. So there's this little "bump" on my chart right at my TOM. Next month I'm going to try to up my water intake in the week before and see if I can make the bump smaller.0

My best advice is to just stay away from the scales during that time of the month. I try to weigh right before, and then lock up my scales until it's all over. It's just so discouraging to see that "fake weight" building up when you know you're still eating right and exercising.0

Yep just had mine, gained about 4 pounds. Took 3 days after it was over to lose it all and then see my loss for that week. I just do not log it here until my next weigh in after TOM ends0

I haven't gained yet but I never lose that week. I am always the same as I was last week lol Kind of annoying.0

absolutely refuse to weigh during TOM0
