losing weight too fast?

I'm just wondering if I'm losing weight too fast? My mom keeps freaking out about it. I don't think I am. I personally think I'm right on track, and doing great. I started losing weight about the first of the year, and my start weight was 194lbs, and now last time I weighed in April 3, I was 156.7lbs.
What do you guys think?

Personaly if its been steady i think your doin great, I would expect your losses to slow down though the closer you get to your goal weight. good luck0

Personally, I would be concerned with your health, You may not feel like you are losing too fast, but technically you are. You have lost approx 3lbs/week, which is unhealthy. You should lose a MAX of 2lbs/week to lose healthily.0

I'd be concerned, but if you're eating enough calories, and they're good, healthy foods, I'd be even more jealous! Make sure what you're doing is something you can keep up for the rest of your life. Diets don't work forever. You've got to actually change your lifestyle to get permanent results.0

As long as your feelin' are alright - keep doin' what you are doin'...as long as it's in a healthy way.0

You can safely lose up to 3% of your body weight per week. So in the beginning of your weight loss, at 194, you could lost up to 5.82 lbs and techically be okay. It looks to me like you're right on track and doing fine just remember to make adjustments as you go along.0

That's 2-3 pounds a week, not bad. Recommended averages are 1-2 a week, but if you're really pushing and doing it healthy, then that's fantastic!!!0

It depends. Are you on a severe calorie restrcition? Are you doing any strength/resistance training? You could possibly be losing a whole lot of lean muscle mass along with the fat mass. This will slow your metabolism and eventually your weight loss will slow a possibly even stop.
As long as you are NETTING more than 1200, eating healthy foods, not over-doing cardio and preserving your lean muscle mass (through weights and resistance) then you are ok (I think - I'm no expert but have done a lot of research in the last 5-8 months). You do have to be careful when losing very fast though. A slower metabolism means when you stop dieting you will gain fat more quickly. Make sure you are preserving that lean muscle...or even better - increasing it to increase your metabolism! This means more fat burning during normal activity and even sleeping!
And depending on how much water your body was retaining before a good amount of that in the beginning could have very well been water weight. (We can hold 10lbs of water in the body!!)
You could go to a doctor and get some kind of checkup or assesment to make sure you aren't harming your body or health. That would probably put your mom's worry to rest. You can't knock her for worrying about you. That's what they do best and it's completely out of love for you.0 -

Wow- 40# is great! I have to agree with the above- ESPECIALLY the strength training! Maybe you are doing some weights so it's all good but just something to keep in mind. Diet alone and restricted calories, will loose muscle and eventually when eating a little extra- weight will come on rapidly. If you're doing it, feeling great, 156 is a lot kinder on the body than extra weight is. That's how I keep on track with food- I remember my body with extra weight just doesn't do anything good. (back, knees etc)
Good Luck : )0 -

I agree with this. This is sound advice. Please make sure you are losing it the correct way. 2lbs a week is what we should be aiming at for max weight loss. You could have done that having a nice water weight loss in the beginning. Thats info you didn't give so I just have to assume.
I would go to the doctor just to put your mom's mind at ease. We as parents are always worried about our babies. And you know no matter how old you are you will always be her baby so do this for her.

Make your diary public so people can more easily answer this question. A quick scan of your regular days will be a great indicator on whether this has been a healthy journey or not. I would expect the weight loss to slow. Also how tall are you and what age? That has a lot to factor in when deciding whether this has been a healthy rate of loss so far. It will also go a long way to help determine how quickly you should be losing going forward.
Awesome job weight wise so far! Hopefully you haven't been overly restrictive or only doing cardio for 4+ months.. You need strength training to build muscle. Muscle burns and displaces fat so you look healthier and feel more fit.. Skinny fat is not a direction you want to be going..0 -
How do YOU feel. If yr tired and hungry all the time then maybe you are but if you feel good, have plenty of energy and and are eating healthy food then carry on. Good luck.0

hmmm.... maybe this is my problem. I will gain 5 pounds in 2 days of coming off my diet. I need to get back to the gym. I've been avoiding it the last couple weeks.0
