Lug it around, Just a thought.

So there you are. 10 lbs lost, 20 lbs lost, 40 lbs lost, etc. and you are feeling proud on the one hand but also wondering if maybe enough is enough. Starting to slide back into old habits, "now that you can afford it". After all how much difference can a day/week without exercise really do or that helping of fries and icecream after you "deprived" yourself for soooooo long. Well when that moment comes (and it certainly came for me, repeatedly:)) do the following.
Find a sturdy back pack. Load it up with cans of food, bottles of water, bags of sand (whatever you want) to equal the weight you lost. then lug it around your house/work up and down the stairs all day or even for just a few hours. When the pain becomes real you might just find yourself reminded why you worked so hard in the first place.
Next stuff socks full with other socks and stuff them down the front or back of your pants, shirt until your measurement are what they once were. Take your picture and ask your self. Is that the Me to be?:) Just a thought. Life is good.

I like this post, yep anytime I need a pick me up for feeling down about my goals I go back to the pic that got me going to start with or I grab the weight closest to what I lost and run up a few flights of steps with it, it really puts things in perspective for you.0

Haha I tried this last week when I was feeling down. Unfortunately, buff as I am, I can't pick up that much weight!0

I am so totally going to do this. To remind me of what I've lost. To encourage me to keep going. And the bonus, what a great workout to go for a walk up some crazy long stairs carrying one.
thanks!0 -

Great post! I've actually tried this (sort of) recently... I was sitting around watching TV with the hubby and explaining that I just didn't think losing 30 pounds (at the time) was all that much... then a commercial came on for some weight loss system and a celeb touting that he'd lost 30 pounds using it... and I saw the before and after pics and went WOW! Then I thought, hey, wait a minute, that's how much I'VE lost... so I loaded up my arms with 30 pounds of hand weights and tried to jog across the living room (I'm a marathon runner) and immediately went HOLY COW! I've run marathons with that extra weight on me... it's soooo hard! I understand now why my running pace has gotten so much faster - it really was a lot of weight to lose!
I agree - whenever you are feeling unsure about the significance of your weight loss, just try picking up something that weighs that much (or even a fraction of what you've lost for those who really have lost an entire person, even if it's a small person) and maybe don't carry it around for a day, but just try to move for a few minutes with it... it's unreal to think that we got used to carrying so much weight on our bodies... no wonder everything was so much more exhausting!
Thanks for the post and the reminder!0 -
That is an awesome idea. I will do it even when it is 100 to 150 lbs. Keepit up... thanks man0

We did this in high school gym class, except we were told what we were SUPPOSED to weigh (slightly embarrassing), and so we "lost" weight until we were that weight and carried it around. We had bricks in backpacks and went on a hike outside... it was really intense and eye opening!! it's crazy that you're actually carrying that much weight around.0

This is a great post! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Yesterday, when I was out pushing my daughter in her stroller (she is 40lbs) I was thinking that last summer and even a few months ago, I was out and about pushing her and carrying her all the while carrying or pushing another her within myself! Then I stared thinking and visualizing how she gets so heavy.. when I am out and about carrying her or lifting her for this and that.. she gets heavy! No wonder I was so tired and didn't want to do much but exist!
Thanks again, very thought provoking.0 -
Thanks. That will help me get back on track. I really liked this.0
