I'm going to start measuring myself with measuring tape from my sewing machine and I'm not quite sure where to measure. Any tips or help is much appreciated!

The more areas you measure, the more you can see your progress. I use a guide from this website:

I measure pretty much all the areas I want to see improvement in: Chest, Arms, Stomach, Hips, Thighs. Chest I measure right across the front (across the nipples for a point of reference). Arms I do at a 90 degree angle, NOT flexing, around the bicep. Stomach I do right at the belly button. Hips, I always measure the widest part, same with the Thighs (mine tends to be about mid thigh). Hope that helps. :)

Measuring is important because sometimes you loose inches rather than pounds. Measure ankles, calves, thighs, hips, waist, chest, upper ams and neck. I only do this once a month. Aloha, Sue

My trainer at the Y measured each arm, upper and forearm, each calf, thigh, hips, low waist(belly button) high waist(natural curve by ribs),under bust, full bust, under arms, and your neck. I didn't lose but 10 pounds in 3 months, but I lost a total of 20 inches!! I was amazed. Good luck!

What about measuring body fat%? My trainer at the Y has one of those machines, but he won't measure me every week unless I pay for a session (and at 80 bux a session).

Is there some kind of scale I could buy?

I just got a Weight Watchers scale (made by Conair) from Target. It does body fat, and what % of weight is fat and bone mass, body water (?) and bmi. I don't know how accurate it is, but so far I like it. It stores up to four ppl. It also says it's not recommended for ppl with any electrical implant or by pregnant women (something to do w scaning for bmi and all of that stuff).

A couple of weeks ago I got Taylor brand scale, but had to return it; it went crazy and told me I gained over 100 lbs in one day!

I wouldn't have been able to return it - not after I'd taken the sledge hammer to it!

    I use this scale: http://www.dillards.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=301&storeId=301&langId=-1&productId=501625071

while it sounds fancy, it really isn't accurate beyond weight. My body fat % changes drastically throughout the day, week, or even month. It shows 45% in the morning, 31% in the afternoon, and 55% in the evening. At 149 lbs I highly down my body fat is 55%. It does show tenths of a lb when measuring weight, and has been incredibly good for that since I bought it in December. I have no yet had to change the batteries, so they do last a while. I bought mine at ****s or Sports Authority (I don't recall which one) for around 35 (price listed on site is 29.99)

Body fat is not very accurately measured, go with weight until you reach your goal, then try to tone up and judge by how you look. I know, it sounds cheesy and inaccurate, but it is cheaper than a session and going to show about the same results.
