I do bikram yoga 2 to 3 times a week usually and have seen a great difference...feels great too =)

I burn about 500-600 calories in a 90 min class( HRM)

I love hot yoga.... you may lose some water weight.....and in general yoga will help with toning. While I would not call it a big calorie burner ...... I do think it's a good part to include in your overall fitness program.

I've been researching it a bit, and saw that for a person my weight and height you can burn 1300 calories in 90 minutes. I guess I should invest in a heart rate monitor to be accurate.

I'm surprised they will let you wear a monitor in class. I just log as a normal yoga class, there are a lot of claims of high calorie burns but I'm doubtful (I've heard that just the stick pose alone uses 200 cal), actually 500 cals for a class sounds right to me.

I have found it has really helped with toning, particularly the arms. I'm loving the way it makes me feel, and enjoy the immense challenge to focus and do better each time. They make claims about weight loss, but cals in vs cals out is the only way!

    Enjoy.

Hot yoga is great, but beware of overestimated calorie counts. The sweating comes from the heat in the room, not necessarily your energy output. It's reeeeeallly easy to overestimate the calories burnt, and then eat them back! To put it in perspective, an hour long run for me (roughly 10km) would burn about 600 calories, and that's high intensity! How can a gentle yoga class burn 3x that amount, for much less effort?

It's great, just be careful not to overeat!! And stay hydrated! :flowerforyou:
