Sad sloppy arms

Need some advice on arm toning moves that dont require equipment. I used to just to pushups but since a shoulder injury a couple of years ago and some major weight gain I'm not quite ready to go back to my stand by move. Need to get rid of the dimples so I can where sleeveless with pride.

    I too would love to tone my arms. I never wear sleeveless shirts.

    I'm not over-weight anymore, but my upper arms are still quite flabby.

    Here's hoping there's some good answers!

    Wall pushups? You can control the weight by your angle. Family-sized soup cans make decent weights. Resistance bands might be considered equipment but they're pretty minimal and super great. Hope that helps a bit.

    i know that you said that you dont want to use any equiptment but dumbbells are so cheap. i had never lifted weights before so i started with the little 2lb ones. they were only like $4 each. i then went to 3lb which were about $6 each and now i am on 5lb which i think were like $7 or maybe $8 each. i cant remember. once i can comfortably do 3 sets of 15 reps for each of my exercises, i get a heavier weight. the 5lb ones are kinda killing me actually. i am still on 2 sets of 10 reps for each of my exercises, but i think that they are a great way to tone the arms. of course, i do cardio every day too and just weights every other day or my arms would kill!!!

    I can't do regular pushups but I do "big girl" pushups either against the wall or my favorite way with my hands on the bathroom counter top. Also water bottles make great weights for doing some strength training.

    tone is a horrible word that needs to go bye bye in the weight loss fitness world.

    tone means muscle definition. to get defined muscles you need to lose fat. to lose fat you need a calorie deficit. to see muscles you need to gain muscles, which requires a calorie surplus. you can only do these things in phases..usually refered to as cutting and bulking.

    if you have a lot of fat, you wont see any defintion no matter how much you lift. and of course we all know you cant spot reduce fat, its an all over thing. to work your arm muscles, you can bench press, bicep curls, pull ups, dips, tricep extensions etc. there are tons of exercises, google them.

    i am 'bulking' right now, meaning i'm just building muscle and doing my best to minimize fat gain. when cutting you need to lower calories, but not too much or you'll lose muscle. and you still need to lift heavy to maintain the muscle.

    flab is fat, not muscle.

    i love this routine. it takes minimal time, you can use small weights or just the force of your own body, and it does the chest, biceps, and triceps and a brief bit of cardio at once.

    i just realized my link probably looks like porn lol! but it really is an awesome routine and you feel awesome doing it. it doesn't hurt until the next day and then it BURNS!!! i do mine on the floor in my living room while i watch my favorite prime time shows and try and do it for at least the commercial breaks so i get in about 20 minutes.

    To lose some of that jiggle, you've gotta lose the fat first. It's tough, but when that happens, you'll be able to see the muscle under there. Same thing with abs! Mine are strong, but that layer of "winter insulation" is keeping the darned things hidden! :grumble:

    No equipment? Grab jars/bottles from your pantry or laundry room (ie Clorox or Fabric Softener - but start with smaller pantry items). Do some reps!

    All of this is 210% right on the money. Totally correct. However, you can lose fat and build muscle at the same time - it doesn't have to be an either/or situation. What's important for muscle growth (as you know!) is protein, amino acids, etc. You don't necessarily need a calorie surplus to build muscle (thankfully!)! :smile:

    It is possible to burn fat and gain muscle at the same time, it's just that you'll see quicker muscle gains if you're in a calorie surplus. If you stick to the recommended weight loss here (1lb a week) and do low-reps high-weight exercise, you'll see both a fat reduction and an increase in muscle bulk (over months, not weeks or days, it takes time to build muscle).

    As for the OP, just keep with the weightloss (diet and exercise) and they'll improve. Spot-training only makes you feel better, it doesn't actually have any localised fat-burning effects.
