METABOLISM KICK START

Ok I just started back on my 'diet' aka new way of eating and loving life.... I have a personal trainer as well which is breaking ym bank but I really need to lose the weight so i wanted to get one so they could show me how to exercise the right way, then i will start doing it alone. HOWEVER, today she says that my issue is not my exercising its my eating, and its not that I eat too much, I dont eat. My body hoards it all... and yes I swear this is actually true.

Yesterday morning I made myself breakfast and my daughter breakfast... I went to go do my hair, my daughter decides my food looks better so she eats it. i came back to find my missing meal and then didnt even bother to make myself anything else. At 302 pounds, i actually have to force myself to eat most the time. I just dont do it, i dont know why, and when i do eat its very small portions. How I gained the weight is beyond me, but here I stand.

Anyhow... so my trainer says my metabolism is flatlined, dead, 6 feet under, etc... she says i need to kick start it by eating small meals and it will take time to adjust my bodies way of doing things, so my question after all my longwindedness is this...

IS THERE A WAY TO KICKSTART IT FASTER?

I have heard that adding lots of protein, like whey protein can help with this, does nayone know if there is any truth to that theory or is there something else i can do?

THANKS!!!

I have the same problem... Over 200lbs and I was hardley eating anything - usually just one meal a day. Otherwise, I was busy, stressed, etc. and forgot to be hungry!!

You'll be surprised at how quickly you'll start to lose once you start eating more (provided the "more" is the right kinds of food). I think it was within a week or two that I started dropping. I did (and still do) find it difficult to eat as much as I should, but I do what I can every day.

Good luck, and keep us posted

Have you been to your doctor recently to get blood work done? You might want to see if your thyroid is working properly because if you eat so little and still gain, it sounds like you have an underactive thyroid, but that is just my theory.

Hello! I used to be over 300 lbs. and I've lost almost 45 lbs... Why dont you give a try at adding in more fruits and veggies into your diet. They are low in calories and rev up the metabolism. So if you aren't that hungry to begin with you aren't commiting to a huge meal. Before you know it you will be hungry and will be able to eat reasonable sized meals. I aim for 300 to 400 calories a meal with one snack a day. Then add in things like chicken, eggs, fish, and cheese. After that add in your favorites in moderation. Ohhh and don't forget to drink lots of water and logging on here. I hit a road block for a while and I found it was cuz I wasn't watching my water intake or logging the food I was eating! Well good luck!!
  • Andrea,
I too had the same issue, I weighed in last summer at 300 pounds, however I ate a lot and knew where that 100 pounds came from... Anyway, the start of this year I was at 285 and eating very reasonably, and not loosing weight just dieting. I started to exercise nearly every night and within a month I was running 5k five nights a week and still not loosing weight. A friend of mine told me that I was starving myself for the size of person I was and sure enough I was. I started to eat more, spread out and focused on protein and less carbs/fat and then started dropping pounds quickly. Two months and 19 pounds are my testament to eating more... who would have thought?

Kudos to you for having a good trainer. I'm a firm believer that a person can eat their way into weight and a person can eat their way to better weight and health. Your trainer is so right about eating several times a day. Good for you for getting the head start into doing it right. You can add me if you like.
    Cheers and success to you!

Also I don't think you need the whey protein. You should get enough protein from your diet.

If you can swing it, with your doctors help, go see a nutritionist/dietician. They can help you get started on bumping up your metabolism. It is true, you have to eat to lose weight. I skipped meals for years and gained weight. When you first start regulating your eatting habits and taking in more healthy food you will see a gain at first, but then it starts to fall off like magic! Take it one step at a time, make something a habit before taking the next step, or you will get burned out and frustrated and quit. Overwhelming yourself with lots of exercise and changing food habits drastically at the same time just set you up for frustration and failure. It will take time to get things moving in the right direction. Be patient and you will see results!
