Hello, I am new to myfitness pal and am loving the program. I have had some bad experiences talking to people online, so would like to get used to being here and just listening for a while. You seem like such good people, working on the same things I am and caring about each other. The reports are great and really motivating to see my progress. I also appreciate the recipes. . Thank you for allowing me to be part of your group.

I've been using MFP for over 3 months now and have been active in the forums. I can honestly say all the people I have replied to or have replied to me have been very friendly with great advice, tips and general help.
We have a great online community here and great tools to help achieve our goals.
I Love MFP :-):happy:0 -

Hi, Reader4!
Yeah, there are definitely some straight-up weirdos (and just downright evil) people online, but the internet is just a microcosm (sp?) of our larger society, which means we all run into all kinds of people on a regular basis. At any rate, I'm a believer that there are way more good folks than sketchy ones out there! I'm glad you are finding the benefits of this website. I'm a beginner too, and
I already love it! I have been exercising regularly and changing my (previously awful!) eating habits for a year now. It has taken me that long to lose 28 pounds, but I figure that at age 57 (3 months from now) I need to lose slowly so as not to put too much strain on my skin's ability to rebound. According to my fitness trainer (God bless that man!) I'm more likely to keep the pounds off if I don't lose them too quickly. He has taught me that pounds don't matter nearly as much as body fat ratios and BMI. He says as long as those numbers are heading in the right direction, the weight will take care of itself. It sure takes away the obsession to weigh a certain amount! I made the life change for health reasons, but it sure is fun seeing myself shrink and get stronger and more toned!
If you haven't already, I would highly recommend adding some type of fitness regimen to your nutritional plan. For me, that meant hiring a trainer because I knew I would never be motivated enough to exercise on my own, plus because of arthritic knees and some foot problems (which helped put me in bad shape in the first place) I needed to find someone who would be willing to work with me without injuring me or pushing me too hard. They are out there, I promise. Another thing that has changed my life is my decision to begin regular chiropractic care three years ago. I can't recommend this enough, either. My chiropractor is a Christian who believes that God designed the body to work correctly and pretty much heal itself if kept in neurological balance. I teach school part-time, and I'm around middle school kids (a very germy bunch who like to share!) I haven't been sick in three years, and I've even noticed a marked reduction in seasonal allergies. I always believed in the merits of chiropractic but just never took the plunge until my daughter's friend (a massage therapist) told me I walked funny and needed to get that checked out. He recommended a good chiropractor who believes in adding proper nutrition and exercise. It has sure worked for me!
Sorry I've rambled on, but I just wanted to send you a bit of friendly encouragement. All of the successes in my life have been directly related to the input of encouragement and inspiration from wonderful people that God placed in my path. If I can come alongside someone else and be a blessing as I have been blessed, even just a little bit, I want to be available. Life is too short to live it alone! Here's hoping your dreams come true!
