Went grocery shopping with my son last night. He picked up a package of firm tofu. I have no idea what to do with it. I told him I would find a recipe somewhere. Does anyone out there have a good one they would like to share?

You could probably find something good on www.vegetariantimes.com. My sister n law marinates it and grills it. :bigsmile:0

Using it like eggs in a breakfast scramble is my favorite way to eat it!0 -
There are some good recipes at http://delicioustv.com/category/tofu/
The crab cakes were good.
A very simple thing I like to do is just cut the block into cubes, and sautee them in a little oil and soy sauce. Good with stir fry veggies or just over rice.0 -
While I'm not a fan of Tofu, there was one recipe a friend of mine made once and it was actually pretty good. I can't remember what she called it, but it was pretty much a taco with the tofu used as the "meat".0

Use it instead of yogurt for a smoothie. Crumble it into soup. Add it to a vinegrette for a creamy salad dressing. Add it to stir fried vegetables and pasta. It takes on the flavor of whatever you cook it with. It has no flavor of it's own.0

Haven't tried to make this in a long time. Actually I think I only tried to do these on a grill...
(Might not be a hit if your son does not like seaweed, ginger flavors, etc.)
Taken from the PETA.org website  (I like burgers - tofu, but also beef. )
TOFU HIJIKI BURGERS
1/4 cup dried hijiki seaweed
1 cup peeled and grated carrots
2 Tbsp. pressed garlic
2 tsp. grated fresh ginger root
1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
24 oz. firm tofu, pressed*
1/2 cup minced scallions
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/4 cup light miso (or more, to taste)
1 tsp. dark sesame oil
• Rinse the hijiki in a sieve or strainer and place in a bowl with warm water. Set aside, covered, to soak for 20 to 30 minutes.
• Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Generously oil a baking sheet or coat with cooking spray.
• Sauté the carrots, garlic, and ginger in the oil for about 5 minutes, until the carrots are limp. In a bowl, mash or crumble the tofu. Add the cooked carrots and the scallions, sesame seeds, miso, and sesame oil and stir well. Drain and chop the soaked hijiki and stir into the mix.
• Use about 1/2 cup per burger and form into patties. Place on the baking sheet and bake until firm and golden, about 30 to 40 minutes.
*Note: Put the cakes of tofu between two plates, and place a heavy can or book on top. Press for about 15 minutes, and then drain off the excess liquid.
Makes 4 to 6 servings

My girlfriend makes a dish we all call Yummy Michelle (her name is Michelle). There isn't a specific recipe but I got this from her:
Yakisoba or chinese noodles, red and green peppers, mushrooms, extra firm tofu, garlic and hoison sauce. Brown tofu and garlic. At same time, cook noodles to package directions. Dice and throw in veggies to tofu skillet (mushrooms last or their be too soft) just enough to steam them with lid on. Mix them all in a bowl with 3-5 tblspoons of hoison sauce (taste to liking). Add pepper or crushed red pepper.
My 1 year old loved this! It can also be substituted with chicken for those who are tofu shy.0 -
