Hi, I have PCOS i was reading about it and a few different websites said cinnamon helps you regulate your insulin levels therefore aiding you in your weight loss. Has anyone tried this? I started taking the cinnamon pills yesterday, I figure its natural so it can't hurt to try. I'm just curious if it helped anyone else, or what DID help.

I dont know anything about cinamon and PCOS, (they say it is good for diabetics) But I use Vitex to help regulate my cycles. When my cycle doesnt wanna come I can take a couple (my bottle says 2 pills a day) and get it going. or I can continue on it and not have to worry about it trying to skip

I don't have PCOS but I get headaches if I eat to many carbs/sugar. If I take the cinnamon pills, it helps me to not get as much of a headache so I think it does help regulating the blood sugar.

no i never heard of that.

i'd imagine being cautious about what carbs you intake would have similar effects

I have heard that cinnamon is really good for weight loss but I haven't heard of it regarding PCOS. I also have PCOS and I have found healthy eating (lots of low glycemic index foods) and exercise works for me.
  • OK thank you for the responses. I'm going to keep on keepin on to see if it works if i lose more weight this month than i did last month I'll let you know if it worked  . . . or didn't work  . THANKS GIRLS!

I don't even know how to look for "low glycemic index foods" I have changed to wheat everything and i'm eating less potatoes i still eat corn like once a week but i'm working on that. :)

I have suspected that I might have PCOS. I have a lot of the symptoms and I am VERY irregular. When I told my doctor, she wasn’t even concerned enough to make sure even though I told her I was concerned because I really want to get pregnant by the end of this year…anyway what is this Vitex?

Cinnamon is definitely known to help regulate blood sugar. Here's a list of benefits from adding a small amount of cinnamon to your diet on a regular basis:

I went to my doctor a few years ago because I had a concern because I wasn't getting pregnant. She found out I had PCOS and ended up putting me on Clomid and Glucophage( not sure about the spelling). Anyhow, I got pregnant with the first cycle of the pills. Now, my husband and I want to have another child but once again we are not having any luck. I thought maybe losing a bunch of weight might help. If not, I will be talking to the doctor about getting on those pills again.

Vitex is an natural supplement you can get at GNC

    What is Vitex?
Other names: Vitex agnus castus, Agnus castus, chaste tree, monk's pepper

Vitex is a plant found in Asia and in Mediterranean countries. The part used medicinally is the dried fruit.

    Why People Use Vitex
Vitex was used as a traditional folk remedy for a range of female conditions, such as post-partum hemorrhage and to help with the "passing of afterbirth". One of its alternate names, "chaste tree", comes from the historical belief that it can suppress libido.

Vitex does not actually contain hormones. It appears to increase progesterone by stimulating the release of a hormone called luteinizing hormone from the pituitary gland. Vitex is also thought to normalize excessive prolactin levels and promote fertility.

    •Female infertility

•PMS, especially breast tenderness, cramping, and headaches

•Acne, especially if it is related to the menstrual cycle

    •Fibrocystic breast disease

    •Heavy menstruation

    •Menopausal symptoms
    Side Effects and Safety Concerns
More common side effects include mild digestive upset or skin rash. Other side effects may include rapid heartbeat, hair loss, headache, dry mouth, nausea, rash, itching and bleeding between periods.

Vitex is not recommended during pregnancy. It shouldn't be used by nursing women unless under the guidance of a qualified health professional.

People with hormone dependent conditions such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and cancers of the breast, ovaries, uterus or prostate shouldn't take vitex.

Small amounts of vitex could increase the production of breast milk in post-partum women. High doses may have the opposite effect and decrease the production of breast milk.

Vitex may affect levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine. People with Parkinson's disease, schizophrenia, or any other condition in which dopamine levels are affected should avoid vitex unless under the supervision of a qualified health professional.

    Possible Interactions
Vitex may decrease the effectiveness of oral contraceptives or female hormone replacement. It could also theoretically increase the risk of side effects.

Vitex could interfere with the effectiveness of drugs that increase dopamine, such as bromocriptine, cabergoline, carbidopa-levodopa, Mirapex or Requip, or decrease dopamine, such as chlorpromazine, clozapine (Clozaril), haloperidol (Haldol), metoclopramide (Reglan), Risperdal, Seroquel, thioridazine, trifluoperazine or Zyprexa

The drs I saw tried to put me on Birth control to fix me but I had a really BAD experience with all the different birth controls they gave me .....Dr thought I went in asking for depression and anti psychotic and refused me even after the massive mood swings and depression I went through..... so I found an alternative that helps massively.

Yeah, I tried it for a while, but didnt really make a difference to my weight loss, so I stopped.

Everyone is different tho - good luck :flowerforyou:
  • HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY!! I usually only lose weight every other week. I lost weight last week to technically i wasn't supposed to lose weight this week but I DID! So excited, I really think it was the cinnamon. I got a terrible sunburn on Sunday blisters and all so I wasn't able to exercise at all until Thursday. I only worked out 2xs since my last weight in and hardly moved Monday- Wednesday so I think the cinnamon is the only explanation I didn't eat any differently so WHOO HOOOOOO for Cinnamon!!
