Pushed too hard...

So I was stupid and didn't listen to my body. I knew my knee was tweaked, but thought I could push through it anyway. I pushed it way too hard and now I'm paying for it. Friday I couldn't walk at all and was afraid I was going to have to go in for an MRI on it. I've put it off hoping it would heal on its own. It still hurts, but I can hobble around on it somewhat. I've been told to have it looked at by several people, but I'm going to give it at least a week to heal and then if its not better I'll go in...

In the meantime....that means a week of doing just about nothing. I couldn't do anything from Friday-Sunday but lay around nad keep it iced and elevated. I'm concerned about having no exercise for a week.

Has anyone else been laid-up with leg injuries and have ideas for me? Please don't say anything that would require squeezing this fat butt into a bathing suit in public (YET) because that ain't happenin'! :)

  • I wouldn't wait the week...go ahead and be seen. If it is truely an injury it will put you on the road to recovery that much quicker!! Good Luck!

what about upper body strength training? seems like maybe you could do that from a seated position? Might not be much.. but a little something and be extra cautious to stay within your calories too and you should be fine

go to the doctor asap, I had the same thing happen to me and I had tore my lateral meniscis...I wasn't to be on it for three weeks. It could be more serious then what you think. Don't mess it up further by not going it. That is was the doctors are for. Take care of it. It will rpobably be hurt on and off the rest of your life, like mine, if it is a bad injury! Go in you will feel better about knowing!

I agree. I made that mistake with what ended up being a lumbar disc rupture. :grumble: Me, in my infinite wisdom, kept thinking it would get better even though it wasn't. I wasted a month and now start physical therapy tomorrow....go get it checked out sooner rather than later. (((hugs))) Good Luck!

chair dancing - lots of us have had to do this when our knees were bad.....(totally get not want to get into bathing suit yet!)

so get in a chair, close curtains and get rid of people who will make fun of this.....put on a bunch of fast paced dancey type music and for 20 minutes start moving your arms.....up and across or to the side in patterns like single, single double pushes.

Just make sure you love the music, focus on the words and have a good time..You will sweat...promise :)

What did you do to your knee?

I have a feeling that it's swollen and it's slowly going down, but you should get it looked at just in case.

UPDATE: Almost 3 weeks of no activity, including a week and a half on crutches I can say......Lesson learned!! LISTEN to your body when it says something is not right!!

I sprained the medial cruciate ligament in my right knee. I was put on crutches and could barely put weight on it for a looong time....all because I decided to push my knee farther than I should have when I *KNEW* it didn't feel right.

My doctor has told me to keep going with the TWO painkillers I've been on for another week yet, and today was my first day in almost three weeks back in the gym (elliptical).

So, kids, learn from my mistake!! If your body says..."hey, perhaps you should dial it back a bit"... DO IT, or it'll get mean and make you cut back!!
