Does anyone know what a normal amount of water retention is say POST WORKOUT??? My body is notorious for retaining water normally but post work out it's ridiculous. I have gained 10 pounds. Could it all be water weight???

I don't think there is a 'normal' amount, but 10 lbs is more than most. Some people experience radical inflammation when their body undergoes stress (like exercise, or illness, or allergies to certain foods, etc.) and others not so much. Regardless, inflammation must be reduced in order for your body to metabolize fat effectively because inflammation looks like fat and feels like fat and resides in the fat cells blocking the release of fat for energy. The best way to do this is DRINK LOTS of WATER. Also, foods have an INFLAMMATION FACTOR that is similar to the GI Index. Avoid foods that cause inflammation, back off a little on your workouts - meaning less intense and longer length until you get more fit. Get plenty of sleep. Keep at it and you will see results.
Forgot to mention - of course keep sodium intake LOW!!0 -
I would have considered myself pretty "fit" I've been running daily for 1 1/2 + years. It's like an all of sudden thing. I'm so baffled!!0

Have you had a check-up lately? I had crazy out of control inflammation every time I exercised and I was finally diagnosed with a blood disorder. Now that I have been treated, I don't experience that anymore.0

Crazy! The same thing has happened to me! I'm a really fit person and the reason I got on this site is because I wanted to lose 5-10 pounds that came on mysteriously. I just did an uptick in my exercise when I started training for a triathlon. I also noticed that I've been undereating for the amount of exercise I'm doing. However, the water retention due to increased stress makes perfect sense.
I'll be taking it down a notch for a few days.

Thats exactly what I'm trying to do. To go back to eating "normally" maybe not so strictly to 1200 calories and to give my body more rest. It's so hard for me to tell if change is working though because I work 12++ hours a day on my feet days in a row! I gained 4 pounds from this am to this pm when I got home!!! Not helping my confidence:(0

Just had labs drawn today. I'm already known to have insulin resistance, I've been taking Glucophage for 7+years. My NP ordered Thyroid panel, testosterone, Vitamin D/B12, Hemoglobin A1C, CBC and BMP. I was shocked that she didn't order progesterone or estrogen levels. My appt is the 29th. I can't wait, each day is getting worse, I just keep gaining. I lost for so long and maintained for so long and now all of a sudden I just keep gaining!! This stinks!0
