New to Using MFP Regularly

Hey everybody... my name's Andy. I'm a 19 year old college sophomore, and I'm a music education major (I play clarinet). I've always (as long as I can remember) been a bit overweight, but freshman year of college I gained about 50 pounds. It kept coming on... I remember noticing when I got up to 200 pounds and thinking that was ridiculous but still not doing anything; I ended up at a high of about 220. I didn't do anything about it until the beginning of 2011 (halfway through my sophomore year).

At the beginning of the year my mom and I started the "17 Day Diet". I don't know if any of you have heard of it, but it's a book written by some doctor. Apparently it resets your metabolism. It gave us a pretty specific regimen of what to eat, and I was fine with that. I'll eat what you tell me to eat if it'll make me lose weight. It worked. I lost a good amount of weight following that plan. I was on break between semesters at college when we started it (living at home), so it was easy. Then (beginning of February), I went back to school, living and eating on campus. I couldn't keep following the 17 day diet, but I took the principles I learned from it and good habits I'd developed to college. I continued drinking only water, not eating late, not eating huge portions, etc. From the beginning of February until this week I would eat (usually) a salad for one meal and either sushi or a chicken wrap for the other (the healthy choices here are limited...). Don't think I deprived myself though, I've enjoyed quite a few dinners out. So I continued losing weight every week. I started at the beginning of 2011 at 209.9 pounds, and I'm currently at 168 pounds. Note that this was all without exercising at all... I had the intention of exercising but, being busy, never got around to it.

Anyway, these past two weeks I lost 1.5 pounds and then 1 pound. I know this is good and healthy, but my weight loss is slowing down and I'm afraid that it's going to stop if I don't change what I'm doing. I think I may not be eating enough. So basically I'm starting to use MFP to make sure I eat enough, and to motivate me to exercise (my friend and I have been jogging around campus every day). I'm excited to see how I feel next Monday morning at my next weigh in.

Sorry this is so long, thanks for those of you who made it through!

Hey Andy my name is Andy as well, sounds like you are doing great and we just need to help you get the rest of the way home. Just log your food and maybe ad some walking, and keep up all your good habits and you will get there. The closer you get to your bodies ideal weight your weight loss will slow, and yes you may not have been eating enough. Feel free to add me as a friend.

    Thanks,

    Fluffy
