Hi! I am a freshman year college student, and after jumping off the weight loss wagon for almost a month I am back on and doing great! However, I have a concern about maintaining my weight loss....I have been considering joining my college marching band next fall, but the practices are three days a week plus football games on the weekends. With all of my classes, however, I'm concerned that I will no longer have time to work out every day like I do now. I currently work out at least 5 days a week with Zumba, running, an elliptical, etc, and I plan to keep this going throughout the summer. If I can't work out on the days that I have band events because I'm too busy, will my weight spike back up? I'm concerned because I feel that flag twirling and marching may not burn as many calories as working out at the gym. If there's even a chance of my weight coming back, I am not signing up! My weight loss is too important to me to lose it for an extra college activity. Any advice? Thanks!

  • Just keep a close eye on your caloric intake, and you should be fine. Best of luck!

Most folks wold argue that weight gain or loss is about 80% related to diet and 20% to exercise. Ergo, if you find the calories you
are burning is decreasing with the new/different exercises you are doing, adjust your calorie accordingly. Especially if you stick with the fresh stuff (veggies, fruit, unprocessed foods, lean meats that it will hardly have a chance to increase.

It's all about the calories. You'll have to adjust your calorie intake for the amount of activity you are or aren't getting. It does seem like you only have cardio in your routine. I'd add in some strength training so you're burning more cals when you aren't technically working out. You'll have to adjust your life to fit the new you. It would be a shame to miss out on POSITIVE life experiences because you're afraid of the weight coming back. That's the same as feeling trapped under all the weight again. You can do it, I know you can. You've already figured out how to have success, now you just have to figure out something new.
