Am I in starvation mode?

I just used the nutrition tool to show my net calories for the past 30 days. My net has only been over 1200 6 or 7 days in the past month.
I am worried I could be in or going into starvation mode.
I feel fine, and have been losing weigh/inches fine but I just want to make sure I am really doing it as healthy as possible.
Perhaps a minimum 1200 net isn't for everyone?

These numbers are never set in stone. Everybody's body is different and a doctor should be consulted in question about this.

However, that number is the norm for what you are trying. If you feel fine and getting results, I really wouldn't worry about it. But you should never go under 1200 calories unless you really talk to a doctor. Doing that is just playing russian roulette with your health.

That is something you should be asking your doctor. No one on this web site should tell you it's ok to go under 1200. It's the minimum because it is important not to starve yourself but I have heard people say their doctor told them they could go under 1200. Better safe than sorry!!
  • 1200 as a minimum is a rule of thumb (for the majority of people). You are a smaller person so it is possible your number is under 1200. If it's working for you, keep doing it!

I am no expert, however, I sure wouldn't drop below 1100. From what I've read from others, the 1200 mark is a safe place to stay. Good luck with that!

Thanks guys, guess this means I better get a doctor.
  • I was wondering the same thing about myself; I am truly hungry all the time. I have been lifting weights and doing interval-based workouts, which calls for more calories. I just upped my calories by 200.

I have only been really hungry the past 3-4 days, so I have been exercising so I can eat more.
    mmm,food.

It doesn't matter if your net is under 1200. It's only starvation mode if you are eating less than 1200.

This is not true. You don't automatically go into starvation mode eating less than 1200 calories. There needs to be a sticky on the truths and myths of starvation mode because theres always a question about it and I guarantee that 90% of the people on this forum hasn't been in starvation mode and never will be. It's very hard to get into starvation mode and it usually doesn't happen until you don't have enough essential fat on your body, usually around the 5% mark.

I think I will be okay,I looked up starvation mode and the symptoms.
I was definetly in it before a couple of years ago but I think based on my energy and health levels right now Im doing just fine.

I'm 5' 2 and a half and was set at 1200. Didn't work for me because I work out a lot. My base is now 1660 and when I work that goes up to around 2400.

I've worked hard for my muscle and don't want my body turning to it for fuel. I was 114.4 the beginning of the week, probably lower as I hadn't worked out and gotten rid of water weight, which I usually lose between 2-6 pounds of in an hour cardio session.
