I'm currently trying to cut out carbs or at least kleep them to a minimum.
I'm really wanting some ideas for breakfasts cos i'm really stuck... even like porridge and cereal have carbs in
I am allergic to eggs, I tried the whole "egg on toast" for a while but my body did not react well to the egg!
I'd appriecate any ideas!

I love eggs but I would love some other ideas. (I dont eat meat either)0 -
can i ask why you are trying to cut out carbs? i have done this before myself but it left me with headaches and moodyness. now i just reduce my carbs so i start with a carby breakfast like wholemeal toast and peanut butter then reduce my intake throughout the day, so i dont really have any bad carbs with my dinner which is usually meat and veg.
maybe you should start slowly getting off the bad carbs like white bread, white pasta and white potatoes and substitute them for the brown versions. this alone will make a big impact on your diet.
Shame you cant have eggs, they are a great food to help you feel full on. How about ham and mushrooms for breakfast with a grilled tomato? yummy )0 -

Hey Katy
I know you're in the UK and just thought I'd let you know that not all personal trainers over here (I'm not sure about other countries) are trained in nutrition, so I'm intrigued as to why she'd advise you to cut down on carbs rather than advise you to eat more protein (it's different!).
You're absolutely fine to have carbs for breakfast, try to have a meal balanced with carbs and protein and aim for low-GI carbs- like wholemeal / stoneground bread, porridge oats, all-bran etc.0 -
Okay I am trying to increase my protein but finding it hard to keep the protein up- thats why I was asking for meal ideas. x0

Some suggestions
*Peanut butter on a mini whole wheat pita
* cream cheese and smoked salmon on whole wheat pita or whole wheat crackers
* cottage cheese topped with berries and cereal or just plain with hot sauce
|*yogurt is a good source of protein as well. and granola with nuts gives you both protein and carbs0 -
I do enjoy cream cheese & smoked salmon I've never had it for breakfast though :P haha
& I also love cottage cheese but I always wanna have it with potatoe!! haha
me and peanut butter just don't get on... I like other nuts- just peanuts aren't for me :P
thanks for the suggestions0 -
Yeah when I went low carb I was also extremely moody, weak, and my concentration went out the window. Its not very healthy and not worth it to drastically limit your carbs.
You do need to know what kind of carbs you should reach for though. Whole grain anything be it bread, crackers, cereal, brown rice, whatever is on the yes list. Also fruits and vegetables (yes, veggies are carbs). These options are apl high in fiber and digest slowly so they wont spike your blood sugar and cause more cravings too soon after you eat them. They are also rich in many vitamins and minerals making them nutrient dense and very important to keep in your diet.
You dont want to eat a TON of carbs because you want a lot of your calories to come from protein. That way, your muscles will stay strong and even grow, Keeping your BMR up.
To answer your question, you are better off eating carbs in the form of oats, whole grain toast or english muffins, and fruit. You should also include a protein source in every meal including breakfast so try some chicken breast however you like it (a fresh chicken salad is good for breakfast), low fat riccotta or cottage cheese, low fat milk (by itself, over grains, or in a protein smoothie), fish, beans, or even tofu (I eat it plain for breakfast fairly often).
I would avoid nuts and nut butters as a protein source because they are high in fat and therefore high calorie. While they are excellent choices when you needs calories from fat, the protein to calorie ratio is not ideal to be a primary protein source.
Try low fat cottage cheese or ricotta topped with Santa Barbara mango salsa. Soooo good. Available at ralphs and costco.
Oatmeal has limitless possibilities. Check out mrbreakfast.com for a giant list of oatmeal recipes. Not all of them are diet friendly but its pretty easy to pick them apart. I like half a cup of dry oatmeal with a tbs of sliced almonds and half a cup of frozen blueberries. 230cal. For protein you can add any flavor protein powder (optimal nutrition has a realllllllly good one availablenon bodybuilding.com) to the oatmeal or have some tofu on the side.
Make a tuna salad out of a can of tuna, 100g of tofu (about a third of a package), 1tbs mustard, and some capers for some awesome healthy tuna salad. You can actually add pretty much anything diet-friendly so this is really versatile too. Have this with a slice or two on whole wheat toast or crackers and you will be satisfied and fueled up for your day.0 -

I would recommend yogurt.
Kroger (and probably other stores) makes a type of yogurt called "carb master" - it has 60-80 calories, 8g-12g of protein and 3-4g of carbs depending on which flavor you get.
It's really good too, and I've been eating it like it's been going out of style lol.0 -
I eat Kashi Go Lean cereal...not sure if the carbs are too high for what you want (30) but it has 10g fiber and 13g of protein.0

There are always reasons to limit carbs, one of them being that they are an inessential nutrient. Low carb diets are healthy for those that use them right. Just like high carbs are healthy for those that use them right. Or high protein. Or high fat. Or whatever. Careful when you say they're not healthy with no real world or research to back it up. As for your moodiness, some people don't do well on low carb diets, some fourish. It will depend on the person.
As far as the OP's question. I usually have ham and egg whites in the morning. Lots of protein, very little carbs.0 -
I like breakfast tacos on a low-carb whole grain tortilla (10g carbs). I usually do and egg and reduced fat cheese or and egg with a Morningstar Farms veggie "sausage" patty. But you could do seasoned low-fat ground beef or Soyrizo (soy chorizo), or some seasoned cut-up chicken breasts. And you can always add a tablespoon or so of salsa for more flavor and not too many more carbs.0
