Questions re: daily goals for grams

I'm confused on how MFP calculates my daily goal for grams of carbs, fat, protein, fiber, etc. I was thinking it was the 40/30/30 ratio thing, but when I calculated it out, it doesn't come out to that. Along the same lines...based on the daily goals MFP is giving me for grams I am quite far under the daily fat goal, slightly under the protein goal and usually a bit over on carbs and fiber goal. Any input on this imbalance (does being way under the fat impact weight loss negatively??) and/or suggestions for getting closer to the daily MFP goal for each?

I'm usually over on protein. If you go to My Home -> My goals it will give you the percentages.

It is a matter of finding what works for you, mfp gives you a general goal, I go to what works best for me, I am a meat lover by nature and I tend to be way over on mfp goals for protein & fiber, but usually way under on carbs, but I do not function well on more carbs, my body likes to be higher on protein, fat and fiber. I have had no trouble shedding fat this way and I feel good, which I did not on what mfp recommended, listen to your body and try to stay above mfp protein goals if you are working out as mfp protein goals are quite low for someone working out.

everyone has their own preference---- for me, I stick to 25-30 g fat, 100 carb, 110 protein, 30 sugar.

I changed mine based off of the p90x goals for the fat shredder...So on a daily bases the goal is 225g of protein! I think there must be something wrong...I can barely get to 100 lol

MFP defaults to 55/30/15, carbs, fat, protein based on the FDA guidelines. that being said a balance diet can consist of carbs from 45-60%, fat from 20-30%, and protein from 15-30%. You can manually make the changes to fit your dietary needs.

Thanks for the info everyone! I found where the gram goals and %'s were, and looked at doing a custom goal, but decided to leave it at the default for now - esp. since it's my first week! Better to see how the MFP suggestions work first. By the way, does anyone have luck with hitting exact (or nearly exact) on your daily goals for calories, carbs, etc??

The amounts may also be affected by the fact that a gram of carbohydrate, protein, or fat contain different amounts of calories (from what I've read anyways).

    1 g carb = 4 cals
    1 g protein = 4 cals
    1 g fat = 9 cals

So the ratio of each in terms of number of grams won't necessarily equal out to the ratio in terms of percentage of calories.
