Tighten & Tone Group - Week 3

Morning everyone! Hope everyone has had a good week. Below are my weekly successes & challenges.

Exercise has been good. But took more days off than usual due to busy schedule :frown: I am behind on the P90X (not gonna finish in 90days), but still doing the workouts & keeping track so I know when to start the next phase. The cardio videos have been replaced by softball one night a week & walking/jogging one night while my kid is at soccer practice. My new goal/restriction on myself is no new clothes until I finish the P90X. But, I may have to break that rule with the weather getting warmer. None of my shorts fit me anymore! Which is a big plus in my eyes  I have a weigh-in & measurements tomorrow. Although I'm happy w/the results so far, I wish the love handles would go away & the thighs would slim down. I haven't seen much improvement there.

Food has been my enemy this week. When the family has to grab a bite in between kids' games (and you're starving), it's been hard to go for the salad instead of the value meal. But in a strange way, I think these "cheat meals" have actually kept me on track. I'm not starving or craving that cheeseburger like I used to. And actually, my mentality has switched a bit. I'm really getting into the "being fit & toned" rather than the "dieting & loosing weight" aspect. As long as I don't go overboard & try I to eat clean the majority of the time, I think I can keep myself going with the program.

I'm really getting into yoga. It's getting easier & I find it relaxing in the evenings. Almost as a way to unwind from the day. My next challenge - taking a Bikram or "hot" (heated room) yoga class! Heard about it from a co-worker. I'm pumped to try it! Anyone else taken one of these classes?

Sorry for the novel, but felt good to vent  Anxious to hear how everyone else is!

    Hi everyone!

This week is definitely better than the last time we checked in. I've biked to and from work everyday this week so far (about 4 miles each way) and have been feeling great. It makes me feel better about the triathlon coming up in June that I officially registered for yesterday, ahh! I probably won't be able to ride Thursday or Friday due to weather so I'll have to work something in...we'll see how that goes...maybe a run and some upper body weights in the mornings.

I'm looking forward to a fun weekend filled with birthday celebrations, two nights out and dinner with the boyfriend's mom on Sunday. I find it so hard to enjoy those things though because I'm constantly worried about calories and if I worked out enough that day to make up for it. I wish I could live in the moment and not go overboard. It's a learned skill, I guess...I'm working on it.

Still no weighing in until Easter Sunday. How's everyone else doing?

I practice Bikram/hot yoga and love it! If you work during class you WILL feel and see it in your body over time! Plus, its one of those work out where, when I am finished I walk away thinking I've done something kind for my body whereas sometimes after leaving the gym I feel like I punished it.

Thanks for the info! I can already tell a difference doing the P90X yoga & the other strength videos. I can do so much more than when I started. Anyone else having trouble w/the thighs & hips? I heard that's the last place you loose. Right now, I can't see me comfortable in bikini bottoms. Gotta wear the swim shorts!

I definitely have thigh issues...I run, I bike, I squat/lunge, they don't seem to change much and my hip measurement hasn't moved at all....not sure the hips will ever change but I like to think that I'd be okay with that if my thighs would be a little more shapely. I think it's the thighs that keep me from fitting into a smaller size. I try to focus on the nice things that are happening with my abs with the exception of the love handles so far...but it would be nice to see SOMETHING...agreed on the bikini bottoms right now.

In addition...the thought of skinny jeans and/or jeggings is up there with the bikini bottoms...not anytime soon.

I didn't check in last week, and don't have much to report this week. I think I've gained weight, which (obviously) I'm not happy about. I am really trying to get some weight lifting in, I just get so confused as to what's best (upper one day, then lower, or total body a few times a week). I'm also trying to revamp my workout schedule, I'm just so tired all the time. Sometimes I think I'm doing too much cardio, then not enough, goes back and forth depending on what I read about that day (everyone has such different opinions on things)!

Starting the 30 DS over again, so if I get it done today, that'll be day 5.

I'd love to know what everyone's strength training program is, maybe it can help guide me....summer is almost here and the weight and flab isnt' going anywhere!

Just keep with it. You will see results! I'm doing P90X Lean, which basically has cardio & strength alternate days, & a day of yoga. 6 days in a row, then a day of rest. I can't always fit in 6 days in a row & lately have to substitute the cardio videos for something else. The strength days splits the different parts of the body up - one day core, one day arms & shoulders, & one day legs & back. Hope this helps. I've been on MFP for 85 days & have only lost 9 lbs. Mine has been more inches & how my clothes fit. Don't give up!

I'm with ya on everything here. I'd be ok w/the hips if the thighs would just go down! I'm trying to stay focused as well on the good things - waist line smaller, I'm stronger, etc. Thighs & the fat around the butt (around bend of leg) are just not moving. GRRR
Oh....and I agree about the skinny jeans & jeggings as well, lol.

Just remember that for everything problem area you have, there's probably one you don't have! My hips are narrow and my legs have always been super muscular (and thanks to exercising they are getting more tone...doing a yoga pose I saw the line on my inner thy if you know what I'm talking about)

BUT my stomach has never been flat. Ever. Since I was a little girl. I carry the majority of fat in that lovely spare tire region making wearing a swimsuit mortifying at time. I will have to work REALLY hard to lose that fat (first one, last off) and it sucks. But hey, I don't worry about my legs.

    Whats YOUR best area?

Right now, my best area is my torso, followed by lower legs. I've lost the most inches in my waist & legs are getting more muscular. It's the "spare tire" region that needs work. Yes, making the swimsuit bottoms a nightmare at times. It will be alot of hard work to get that area down, lol.

Best area? I'd say it's between my butt and my natural waist...I have always had a muscular butt and a small frame according to my doctor so I'm happy with that. Great idea for making a positive statement, by the way. Sometimes we forget about the good things...

Hey all, I started a new weight lighting work out...I know it looks intense but I am really getting on this strength bandwagon so I thought I better commit!

Awesome! I would recommend youtubing the moves before you go! I was familiar with some of them but hadn't done others so I watched youtube first and imitated at home with no weight and did pretty light this session on the moves I was unsure about. I'm also going to have my little brother, who's a football player, follow me around and make sure I have good form!
