Is it bad to go over in protein?

So I have been worried about my protein intake because I'm not eating very much meat. This resulted in me going grocery shopping yesterday and buying loads of stuff packed with protein. Guess I went a little overboard because I am about -4g in my diary...is it bad to go over in protein? I know protein is good for your body but isn't too much of something a bad thing?

I really doubt that being -4 would make any difference at all. My suggested protein is only around 50g but I try to reach as high as possible. I don't think it is a bad thing at all.0

No. It is not bad to go "over" on protien.0

Absolutely not. The protein recommendation here at MFP is really quite low..0

MFP is just giving you ranges so that you get the best nutrition for you. If you go over today go a little under tomorrow. Your body doesn't do 24 hours like we do.0

I sure hope not, I go over almost every day. I eat a lot of chicken and egg whites.0

I usually go over, but it's fine if you're exercising!!0

Yeah, I'm glad to hear that because I pretty much go over on protein every day too. And it doesn't seem like too much. I wasn't eating enough before I got onto MFP.0

I go WAY over on my protein. While I am trying to build muscle, it was recommended that I take in as many grams of protein as my ideal weight (right now we're shooting for about 160). Obviously, this is WELL over what MFP recommends... and I'm still dropping about a pound a day.0

going over protein is fine
i'm generally taking in 180g a day and i'm doing fine0 -
Going over is not a bad thing unless it is in major excess. To build muscle it is recommended you consume 1 to 1.5 grams per pound of body weight. The USDA guidelines will quote much less. I am fairly muscular in build so protein intake for me is very impotant to keep my muscle. For example, I weigh 133, I'm 5'6 and I average around 150 grams per day. Just make sure you consume plenty of water because increased protein taxes your kidney.0
