So I am not hungry, but I was to eat something, particuarlly something salty... does anyone else crave foods when they are bored?
How do you combat the boredom without over eating?

I'm definitely a "bored" eater. When I'm bored and think about eating, I try to drink some water or get up and do some exercising!0

Why don't you pick up a hobby or read a book or learn some new fitness topic. If you distract yourself, you won't feel the need to eat when bored. How much time does eating really fill up? Not much. All it ends up doing is making you feel bad and the boredom is still there.0

I usually chew a piece of gum when I get to that point.0

Hi,
Boredom is a HUGE issue with me, and I want to eat just for something to do. I try to do something to keep busy instead. I hop on the treadmill or head outside for a walk. Sometimes I begin reading a book or cleaning house just to do that instead of eating. I'll play solitaire or Scrabble on the computer. I often wish I was "crafty" and could do something with my hands that was more productive.
Will be anxious to see what other people suggest as alternatives to eating out of boredom.

When i'm bored i do an extra workout. If i'm at work i go for a wander to another office at the other side of the campus to chat to someone.0

Gum and/or water and then find something to occupy my mind and hands. Perfect time to go for a walk, clean/organize something, find a hobby, read, watch a movie (which might not be a great idea), balance checkbook, plan for something, call a friend, go shopping/window shopping...etc.0

I usually make a hot cup of tea or coffee and that gives my mouth something to do.
Gum is another good option.
Do you have any hobbies? I like to draw, paint, and read, so I enjoy doing that.
If you like to sing you can do that too... it's hard to sing with food in your mouth!
Or any sort of work you need to be doing, whether it is cleaning, filling out papers, or even writing a letter..
Good luck, hope some of those helped!0 -
Shopping!!!
And when I don't want to spend money I always have housework to do, but I usually try to get out of the house0 -
I am not sure what your meal plan looks like but I have 6 meals a day. So I am eating roughly every 2 1/2-3 hours. 3 Main meals and 3 healthy snacks. I haven't struggled with boredom eating since starting this way. Basically I am eating breakfast around 7AM, a snack around 10AM, lunch around 12:30pm, afternoon snack around 3pm, dinner around 5:30pm and last snack around 7pm. I keep sugar free pudding cups, sugar free fudgescicles and chocolate rice cakes to help with sweet cravings. In the day time I eat apples, oranges, grapefruit and such with a handful of almonds here and there. I also eat cottage cheese with berries, hummus with carrots and yogurt for snacks at times. For salty cravings, I find the hummus works well. Also 100 calorie packs of smart popcorn work well. Pretzels are a good alternative too.
Anyway...I am really not getting off course. Just wordy tonight. lol. So anyway, I would suggest adding those mid meals if you don't already to help. You're eating so much with it that when your boredom strikes, maybe it would be a snack time. Another suggestion is to find "freebie" foods like fresh veggies and stuff that you can munch on. I also read the MFP page to keep encouraged when bored or wanting to give in.
Hang in there friend. It's tough at times but you can do it.0 -
I try to find something to entertain me. Or get a lollie that I can suck on or something...0
