So I have always thought about going vegetarian for health reasons (and I'm not a big fan of meat anyway), has anyone else ever tried it? Or is anoyone a part-time vegetarian where you don't eat meat for like half the week or whatever?

I'm a vegetarian and have been since Aug of 2010. I never liked meat eather and honestly dont miss it. I have since gotten off acid-reflux meds and haven't had any depression symptoms either. I really think the hormones in the meats messed with my hormones. Feel free to look at my diary for food ideas and if you have any specific questions please ask! Also there are lots of great vegetarian resources out there to address getting enough meat (my fave is nomeatathlete.com)

    Good luck!

I'm curious about this too. Sometimes I will get a meat craving, but I have been able to go without meat for days without even noticing it just because I'm not a huge fan. I love veggie burgers, but tofu kind of scares me... lol It also worries me to go vegetarian because I am constantly around meat lovers, and I don't want to be difficult by having separate food....

Well, Im not a vegetarian because I still eat birds and fish, just not mammals, but I hear it all the time "oh yeah, youre a vegetarian" Um, nope..
I am thinking about going vegan but Im not ready yet. I do feel MUCH happier since I stopped eating red meat, so it can only get better. Dont know how Ill live without cheese though..hmmm baby steps, I guess.
Hey! Maybe Ill do what you mentioned..be vegan a couple days a week and see where it takes me!
Good luck in whatever you decide!!

I've been going vegetarian for lent, and it's not as difficult as I thought. I don't ordinarily eat much meat to begin with, but I still manage to eat enough protein through nuts, eggs, beans, veggie burgers(they're good!) and fish. These are typically less fatty than meat (except for the nuts, which contain fat--but healthy fat). Unfortunately, I don't think it's necessarily helped me lose any weight or anything. I've only been doing it for about a month though. But it's worth a try! After lent I'm thinking I might do a part time thing, or only eat chicken/turkey/lean meat. As tempting as a nice steak is sometimes....

I was a strict vegetarian from 12 yrs old to about 32. Why the change you ask, I started dating a meat eater. LOL but I will tell you as of 2-3 months ago I am back to my old ways. I do not feel as good as I did when I was just fruit/veg and clean foods. I do eat fish, use dairy products but sparingly, I am lactose and recently discovered gluten intolerant.

I'm participating in Lent at the moment. So I am on week 5 without meat in my diet. Mind you, I do have an occasional piece of fish. There are lots of other options out there where you can get the protein requirements. In all honesty I am not having any trouble with it at all. I find it to be pretty easy...at the beginning I had very low energy which I am only assuming was from not getting the proper amount of protein that my body needs...but eventually found other ways to get it and now I feel amazing! I don't think dropping meat has helped me lose any of my weight, but it is quite exhilarating to know that I have the willpower to stick to something! Gives me a lot more hope!

I have been a vegetarian since November of 1993. I rarely eat eggs but I do eat cheese and some milk products. I have thought that maybe I could eat meat again. I realized that I could never go back to eating meat again. For me, the idea of eating meat is just so unappealing. I have been a vegetarian for a long time and I really don't think anything of it anymore. You learn there are certain foods you shouldn't eat when eating out due to the high likely of it having some kind of meat product in it, i.e soups. There are many books out there to help you get started so that you don't lack in any particular vitamin.

Growing up, I had many stomach issues. When I finally gave up eating meat in college, nearly all of those issues have disappeared. I think I am just one of those people who really wasn't meant to eat meat. I hated meat as a kid and the only thing I liked to eat was a PB&J.

    Best of luck.
